i'm running the gen 2 rear mains on top of my all pro five inch lift with the shackles in the SAS.  the mounting location on the gen 2 vs the gen 3 allows your front axle to be further forward to improve your approach angle.  If you check out my build there should be a pic of how much flex I got just messing around.  If I cut just a little I could get more but opposite side starts to rub (no bump stops)

I'm going to play it by ear Yeller, I should be able to get away with an angled pitman arm that I have. Plan on moving the steering box as far forward as I can and standing it close to strait up and down. We'll see what I have to work with once I get everything bolted up.

what gen of rears are you running for the top 3 leafs? Personally I like the 3rd gens packed with cut down 2nd gens with 6/7 leafs..... 3'' longer than the 1st/2nd gens. I run a 7 pack in my 85 runner with the chevy 63's/JJ shackle mounts in the back... Cheap and Flexy

Not sure, first time building my own RUF pack, i'm going to experiment with 1st, 2nd and 3rd gen... I guess it depends on what they have at the local pick n pull.

Thanks for the info though, I'm def. running a 6 leaf pack if not more.. this will be a DD as well so I need to ride decent on the street.

I run mine on the street as well and they flex GREAT. The key with custom packing them is to use the thinnest leafs under the stock three of the pack... nice progressive spring rate!

Mine is a 6 leaf ruf pack and it rides and handles great when I drive it to the trail. I was workin on the rig yesterday. If you want I will be home after 530 tomorrow if you want to roll by. I need to come check out your rig too.

yea i didn't call you because i had a bunch of sh*t going on the past couple days.

kinda torn right now on what i'm going to do because I had planned on running RUF/63's BUT.. I already have a set of 4" Marlins in the garage for the rear and there's a dude on the board selling a set of 3" TG's for fairly cheap.

maybe i'll tack these springs in place and see what it looks like..

i'm still planning on building a RUF pack and aquiring some 63's...I could always change it up if it doesn't work.

That is a bit of a dilemma. You could run it with ruf and the marlin's in the rear with a few leaves taken out and see how you like it or vice versa with the 63's.

? Why are you hesitant to use the MC springs ?  they are a proven spring

Only because i'm trying to keep the COG as low as possible (without cutting a ton of body off)  The Marlin 4" spring's going to be much more lift then the 63's.

i frenched my rear hangers into the frame with the 63's to lower it... I love the stance but I have to tub part of the inner rear fender wells.... I believe I am sitting 25.5'' to the frame on 4deez and that's minus the engine, fuel tank, spare tire and bumpers/sliders so it should sit a little lower once its put all the way back together.

Decisions, Decisions...

I know its a little different.
I had a tg 4" kit in the front which ended up sagging out and replaced some leafs with some all pro's.

However.  With both of those springs i have to run a 2" block out back for it to sit level.
So i would think some stock chevy's and a custom pack up front so it sits close to level would be a good height.

Shamb

Dingman how long did you run those springs before they went flat on you?

Doing some clean up today, ordering the rebuild kit tomorrow, might order my shock hoops, shackles and mounting hardware... including a front hanger.

Planning on heading out to the local pick n pull to see if I can score some stock rears.

just ordered the front gussett kit, rebuild kit w/ new bearings, spring hanger and shock hoops. going to pick n pull today to hopefully find some stock rears so I can start on my RUF.

i'm going to hold off on the shackles and shocks until I get the front springs mounted, it's got a pair of 6...er.... 6 1/2" shackles on the front right now... so i'll see how it sits and make adjustments as needed.

i'm dreading buying new tires  :ack:   hopefully i'll be able to sale a bunch of parts that I pull off to make some extra $$$

What is your goal height?

I'd like to be in the 23-24" range to the frame. It's at 24" right now w/ 36's. It'll be on 37's when it's done.

Easily doable.

If I can get it lower without major mod's to the body then i'll do it... I really want to try and keep the body intact as much as possible. Other than tubing the rear and cuttings the firewall back...

To lower the rear you can french the hangers, lower the spring blocks, shackle inside or above the frame. To lower the front just raise the front spring mounts, raise the shackle mounting point, but lengthen the shackles, lower the spring mounts. Front is trickier though, crossover may contact the coolant pipe, unless you go lowsteer.
