I don't care for the new ones either. What are you doing with the 36s on it right now? If you plan to sell them let me know a price I might be interested

I'll def let you know, i'd let 'em go cheap too.

Right now i'm trying to hold off on buying a bunch of parts to finish the truck because I need to make sure I can register/smog it. I had planned on going in yesterday but got tied up, have an appointment next Thursday.

If anyone has a lead on some stock rear's i'm interested... I think i'll put my 4" marlins in the rear and do rears up front.

I should hopefully have some progress pic's soon, i've been chugging along at it each weekend when I have time. My daughters to the age now where I can bring her out and just let her run around the yard or sit in the 4runner while I work. She loves sitting in the Runner... hah... I can't wait to let her drive it on the trail.

I know thomasP has alot of stuff sitting around, he put fords on my rear and put some 2nd gen rears under my front, He could have some others sitting around.  Look on my build for him unless you already know who I am talking about.  My build is 89 x-tra cab/22re build I just posted so its towards the top.

It went in for the smog today, should know by this afternoon. As far as physical inspection he said everything looked good. I'm nervous.. I hope it passes!

UPDATE:

Just talked with the smog shop, it passes emissions. Failed visual because apparently the CAT was put on backwards and isn't CA legal along with the gas cap. So basically I just need to get a new gas cap and new CAT and it'll pass. I should have it home by next week then it'll be off to DMV to see what needs to be done to get it registered.

Soon, very soon the progress will start. I plan on buying springs for the front along with a rebuild kit for the front end by the end of the month.

I love being in a non emission controlled area for expense and hassle reasons, but it sucks cause you cant buy a used vehicle knowing its running correctly due to having to be smogged. glad you got it smogged n tagged!

That sucks about the CA cat thing, they got me for that last time and had to get a CA approved OBDII cat that costs twice as much as a regular cat because it's "CA legal"  :headshake:

Just because we have to smog here doesn't mean buying a used vehicle you know it's running correctly

yea, it does suck but i'm just glad it actually passed.. i've delt w/ night mare situation in the past getting a Toyota to pass smog... big $$$$ sometimes...

tomorrow my buddies coming over, i'm going to be introducing him to the toyota world... we'll be pulling off the body lift, possibly the rear blocks and a few misc things. i'd like to yank out the push-pull steering but think i'll hold off until I get the rebuild kit in for the front end so I can do it all at once. That way it'll still be driveable.

I'm probably going to be buying a tube bender so if anyone has leads let me know, my buddy had a bad ass hydro setup but sold it recently. I'll need something to build the bumpers, shock hoops ect.

Progress today, pulled the body lift, sliders, front and rear bumper off. I'll be taking pictures and posting everything that I pulled off for sale, just gonna go a different route.

Before:

After:

I believe it's a 3" body lift, haven't measured it yet.

Next week I might start pulling the front end apart, rebuilding it, installing the 30 spline longs and power steering.

i've always triangulated the rear springs... I think this time i'm going to go with a different setup and see where it takes me. Plannin on running a piece of 2" round tubing across the frame rails directly about the axle and mounting the shocks nearly verticle (kinda like stock)  and keep them twords the outside of the axle.. I think this will give it a better overall ride.... I may need to extend the 2" tubing up into the cab, we'll see.....

looking for pictures of other 4runner with 4" rears and 3" fronts running 37"+ tires so I can get an idea on how much i'll need to cut off the fenders/fenderwells.

its not major but they are slightly narrower at the rear. basically it just stiffens up the suspension for towing

problems, problems, problems.... so now that the body lift is off the steering is completely shot.. lol... it still has the original push/pull steering which i'll be replacing soon but now that the lift is off it's nearly impossible to turn the wheels. I took a peek under the hood and nothing looks to be jammed or binding up...

odd?

shoot me some idea's, i'm thinking about just saying 'ef it and pulling the front end apart now, ordering a rebuild kit ASAP and putting my power steerring on... i was hoping to drive it while parts arrived. Maybe not!

EDIT:

fixed, thought I already adjusted the steering linkage.   :smack:

Looks good. you should get the  :turtle: 25mm steering pin upgrade, I'm selling mine thats never been installed since I am about to upgrade axles  :wink2:

My 4runner with 3" allpro springs in the front, and 4" marlin in the rear. I have yet to do any trimming but did a little  :_order: at the pinch seams.

That pic is a little old but im sure you get the idea.

what size tires are those?  I like the stance, thanks for posting that picture. I've been searching PBB for the past two days strait trying to find specific pictures of 4" rear's and 3" fronts with little to no luck. Also how did you like the Allpro springs?   I was going to go with TG but I hear their 3" springs are actually like 4" lift springs. I'm trying to keep it LOW but not to the point where I have to do major modding like some of the projects on PBB.. I don't have that kinda time/money or skill.. haha

I'd love to see more pictures of the rig John Doe!

I replied to your PM but I'll but the info here for everyone else too.

The tires in the pic are 37's, I am sitting +/- 25.5" under the drivers door. I am satisfied with the overall ride and performance of the springs. They did sit higher then I like. Out of partial boredom I swapped out the top 2 leaves from the front allpro with the top 2 from a 2nd gen pickup. The best that came from that was pushing the axle forward nearly another 2". I have a few things I need to change to get more performance from these leaves: flat pitman arm, re route hydro hoses and brake line, bump stops. I need to make a small notch in the frame for the flat pitman arm I have had sitting in a box for over a year.

I'll see about getting a pic in the next couple of days.
