started the spring clamps today, got everything cut and drilled but i need new tips for the torch.  also pulled off the passenger side front spring.. nothing major but it felt nice to get into the garage for awhile.

i'll probably go get new tip's tomorrow and get them finished, then on to getting the front end back under the truck.

i'm gonna be hitting up a few buddies to see if they wanna give me a hand next Friday, i'd like to knock out a large chunk of it... with a few days and a few friends i think it'll be ready to hit the trail in a month or so... we'll see how it goes.

only thing i need to buy still is shackles (which i'm not sure what size i need until i mock everything up)  and same thing with the shocks. i've already got people calling me wondering why the hell i'm not done yet

going to calrocs tomorrow in browns valley!

got some work done yesterday, fyi don't buy vermont america ANYTHING... = garbage...  i wasted half my day getting replacement tools.

i should have the axle ready to be slapped in by today, just need a few helping hands soon. i'll be ordering bushings and shackles as well.. i think that's all i need for the front.

other then shocks... but i need everything mounted in place first.

i'll wait and post some decent pictures when things get rolling, not much to show for right now.

didnt get as much done as i would have liked today.... strapped for time because my wife decided to tell me she had some photo shoot to do last minute so i'm on daddy duty now.

also didnt think about it... but the bushings that came with the spring perch are for stock springs?  or something.. not the right size.. they're 1 1/4" and I need 1 9/16" outside diameter. gotta toss an order in and cross my fingers that my wife comes home soon so i can atleast get the mock up shackles finished.

i did however tack the spring perch into place.. next will be replacing bushings on the front and mounting the springs.

Can someone give me a part number or link to the replacement bushings on a stock set of rear springs @ the military wrap end. They have a diameter of 1 7/16" or so.. give or take a little. I'm sure it's a metric measurement... I ordered the "large" bushings off marlins site but they're too big by roughly 1/16th"

Here's what I ordered and they're the wrong size http://www.marlincrawler.com/suspension/parts/spring-bushing-large
I put in the notes specifically what I was using them for and hoped someone would look it over and verify what I was ordering was what I needed but I guess not.

On top of that I paid $7.50 shipping on a bushing that costed $2.50....

Now i've got to send them back, wait another week or more for the correct bushings. Oh well... lesson learned..

EDIT: I have to assume I'll need these.......

http://www.marlincrawler.com/suspension/parts/spring-bushing-small

But I swear this is what the front spring hanger came with and they're way too small... maybe i'll just buy more of the large and cut them down to the right size...

I cant answer you on the proper bushing size, but do you come down to sac very often? I know the guys at Goldenstate have a bunch of bushings in stock and should have what you need.

Shamb, did you press the sleeve out!!!! the large bushings are what you use, but after you burn out the OEM bushing, there is a sleeve (bing its like 1/16 thick) that has to be pressed or cut out.

I have a bunch of these bushings and got them from goldenstate and if they don't have them 4 wheel parts will. I will get you the part number off the box. It includes the the large bushings for the front and the smaller ones for the shackles.

trucks sitting way to high in my opinion.. not sure why yet.. i threw on the 6.5" front shackles I had sitting around to see where it sat.. they're damn near verticle.... not sure what i'm gonna do about that yet. I'm going to order 5" for the front. It's 26 7/8" to the frame... seems high to me  :dunno:   when I go to a 5" shackle it should be around 25 3/8" to the frame...hoping the springs will settle a little to 25" or so.

Here's a quick picture I took with my phone so you get the idea. The hi-lift is just basically resting on the front... not lifting the truck at all. Idea's?

Love the Camaro, even though its not my favorite body style.

I'd run the springs with the 5" and see where they settle in at.  And then go from there.

my concern is getting the 5" shackles will not change the angle of the shackle... correct?  i'm not sure how that works since the spring will be moving up an inch and a half. I have the spring hanger flush with the front cross brace, i suppose worst case scenario i could relocate it back a little... trying to keep that axle as far forward as possible.... less problems w/ firewall rubbage.

Todays goal includes getting the steering on, removing stock rear springs for the 63's and putting the ubolt flip on the rear.

Talking to kdub he relocated his 63's 7" forward... so i'll probably do the same as a starting point, I have new brackets for the shackles too so it'll be easier to get the desired shackle angle for the back.

You want the front hangar flush with the factory crossmember.  After drawing it out on paper, you might gain a few degrees on a shorter shackle.  I drew it out on paper to kinda see.  And then went back to reference your picture and thought of something.

What type of hangar do you have?  (I'm rethinking some stuff)  Cause in my foggy brain, I want to say that some manufacturers of the front hangar, ie Marlin, the piece between the leaf spring mounts wasn't centered.  It was offset, and which way you mounted it, you would gain X" one way, or shorten the other.  You understand my thinking?

Rudimentary  -->    \[] /     \ []/   First two crossmember offset, gain or lose forward placement of spring eye by 1.75" (IIRC).     \ [] /   Last one centered.
I tried to find some info online, but nothing to show, but TG does mention a "offset" spring hangar.  IIRC, Marlin had it when he carried the sas kits.

Hope this helps?

I keep going back and looking at your picture, and I think that you should just get it all setup and running, and then see what happens when the springs settle out a little.  And then go back and tweak stuff.   Once you flex them on a trip or two, you will lose some height and the shackles will slide back more.

yea that's what i'm thinking too.. i'm ordering the 5" shackles for the front and pulling the 6.5's off as soon as they show up... the front hanger is centered it's not offset in one direction or the other and it's flush with the front cross brace as of right now. We'll give it a shot and go from there... it's all mock up right now anyways until I get it up on all 4's and see where it sits.

didn't get as far as i would have liked today.. made some mock shackles for the rear today and got the 63's hung, didn't get the rear axle up or the steering done....might do some work through out the week if i get off on time... otherwise Saturday and Monday.

still have to order shocks and drivelines, got the duals sitting in the garage ready to go on... time is the enemy right now...

EDIT: I can see why you would think it's offset, that last pic makes the hanger look like it's offset further forward, I posted a pic of the spring hanger further up the thread so you can see that it's flush.

plan's have changed yet again, gonna be going solo on it tomorrow but i did get some more done today. got the 63's under the truck (mock up)..... while the axles out i'm gonna hit it with a buffer wheel and give it a fresh coat of paint tomorrow. If it dry's in time i'll be bolting it up and starting on the steering box.

Got my new MTR mounted today and received a package for marlin that had my front 5" shackles. I'm really hoping to get the rear axle completely finished tomorrow and most of the steering complete. Monday i'm hoping to have it back on the road again.

Still haven't decided if i'm gonna run the set of duals i have in the garage or take them down to marlin's to have 'em checked out since I have no clue what it looks like inside the case. Everything spins freely and appears okay... but who knows.

Then it'll be off to purchasing new shocks and getting drivelines once the duals are installed..

Dude, I can pull those cases apart for you and I'm right down the street not in Fresno :D don't get me wrong I would love to have marlin built cases but I can't afford it so I rebuilt my duals instead and they work flawlessly, it's actually real easy. Let me know.

Got the rear axle in today, cleaned up and painted the axle. Sitting at 26 1/4" to the frame. Wheelbase is around 109, once i swap out the 6.5" shackles for 5" shackles should get me around 25" to the frame. I'll post a few pics later. Progress!
