Got the front springs mocked up, hoping to hit up my buddies shop tomorrow to use his drill press and torch to finish the spring clamps. Cleaned up the 63's and started pulling the stock steering box.. which is being a b*tch, having a hard time getting the hardline into the steering box loose.

Thinking about putting the clamps on the 5th leaf, whatcha think?

Somewhere in this area on both sides.

Thoughts?  Ideas?

You'll definitely want spring clamps. I watch my friends with RUFs and no clamps have their springs slap slap slap all the time. It allows a ton of axle wrap. One so much that he broke a u-joint at the diff side because it was so bound up.

I would put it on the 3rd of 4th leaf. It still allows good droop, but keeps the "main" leaves together a little better. Just my experience. In fact, I have a spring clamp on both sides, but you want to make sure you have at least a spring clamp on the shackle side. That is the side that it will wrap and unload.

Shayne, first off I got your hi-lift from Blingn in my 4runner, I will be around this weekend maybe I will run by your house.

Second, I need spring clamps big time on my ruf's so let me know what you end up doing and where you go to do it because I should take mine in too.

This is where the rear spring clamp is on mine (both are open) if that helps.

I got some 3/8" by 1" ..or 1 1/4" counter sunk grade 8's that i'm going to counter sink through one of the leafs, using 1" flat bar for the clamp itself and I have some round tubing i'm going to use to support the bolts going across the spring. I'll get pictures when I finish them so you get the idea.

As much as I hate to say it...... i've gotta put this on the back burner for a bit. Some unexpected medical bills have popped up, i'll still be making progress with what I have just not purchasing anything new anytime soon.

Where'd you get these?

Got my new drill press, next week will be a little hectic w/ Christmas but I plan on getting some work done and finishing the springs. I still need to stop by Kdub's house to pick up the hi-lift so I can get the spring hanger cut off.

Nice looking 4runner Shane. I just over paid for a mildly built 93 truck because I didnt want to spend a bunch of time messing with with a build.... Then I promptly decided a few things needed fixing and ordered a bunch of stuff. I think it has been almost 8-9 years since I wheeled anything.. lol.

My 4runner is sitting on the trailer in storage, I am considering taking the duals and seats out of it for the new truck.

Im game pretty much anytime Im not working. I have to rebuild the front axle so that has me a bit worried and I am guessing from the clutch feel it needs a new slave cyl, but its drivable.

I am having a bit of buyers remorse lol.

Thanks, it's torn apart and spread all over the garage now like a greasy jigsaw puzzle. Longs on the way though.

Didn't see if you have gears/ lockers yet but I am selling the 5.29/ detroit 3rds I pulled out of the truck I just bought or if you know of anyone looking for them.

Edit: nevermind just read that you are good to go on gears and stuff.

I say the same thing to my front axle parts laying in my shop.  I really want to get my rig built.  But when your are living paycheck to paycheck, you tend to just want to sell off the parts you got, and just forget about building up a rig.

But on a up side, I got a buddy that his future son in law, is starting up a small business, building Toyotas.  And I'm gonna be hitting him up next year.  He has a shop full of parts, I need, a lift, plasma cutter, and welders.   :crossed:

I'm going to pick up a torch in stockton today, progess is going to start this week/weekend. Depending on what time I get back today i'll be finishing the front springs. My good buddy Rudy called me this weekend and lit a fire as well, he's ready to go hit it up so we're gonna get it done asap.

I may be picking up some shocks in woodland on my way back home.

I hear you Cheesemaker!  It is tough dude, one of my biggest hurdles is the fact that my wife works everyday i'm off so I'm in charge of watching my little one. I'd feel horrible just leaving her inside the house to watch cartoons while I worked on the rig... and when she's out with me she gets scared (loud noises ect)  and starts crying.. yada yada yada... so it just doesnt work out very well. But my wife is off tomorrow so i'll have some time and I may have a little time in the afternoon on Saturday.

I really just gotta start slapping things together.. most of the hard work has already been done.
