Will do bro, wheeling trip soon!

So the rear's a little lower than the front, not sure if you an tell in the pictures but the 5" shackles should help fix that problem. On to the next step, steering and dialing in suspension. Then duals, drivelines and misc little stuff.

today was rough.... steering situation was a b*tch considering the lift and no body lift.. ended up pulling the radiator out, all the lines had to cut a bunch of misc stuff out of the way and cut part of the front clip next to the body mount to get the steering box where i needed it...
.. had to take a break from that project because i didn't have a 3/4" drill bit to drill through the frame rails for the tube inserts.

relocated some mounts for the rear shackles to get them at a better angle and replaced the 6.5" shackles on the front for the 5" i bought from marlin.

if i get off on time tomorrow i'll be doing alot of welding and cutting into the frame for the steering box....time is the enemy right now because I don't have much left.

Suspension seems super soft with the new springs so i'm going to mount my shocks completely verticle or close to get as much out of them as i can.. even if this means cutting into the cab.

Opinions on shocks?  had planned on going with bilsteins but i'm open to idea's... i'm gong to need something that will stiffen the suspension.

Oh and the 5" shackles didn't make that much of a different, truck is sitting at 26" to the frame.

Thanks bro, hard when i've only got a few hours on the weekends to work on it. Got the steering finished today so i just need to bolt the drivelines up, mount shock towers, buy shocks and get the radiator, airbox and a few misc things put back in... then fill all the fluids. Bleed the brakes.... yeeep.... time is the enemy as usual.

Hope to get some work in on Thursday, Friday and Saturday...

Looked up Radflo shocks.. probably gonna go a cheaper route for now.. don't really wanna spend $600 plus on a set of shocks..

It's going to be $300 just for a set of bilsteins... hoping I don't regret it.. I want to make sure the shocks are gong to stiffen the suspension a little for road use.

nah... work was pretty rough this week so I didn't get time to do anything, besides....still need shocks and I want to get the duals installed.. probably do something a bit closer for the first trip out so if/when it breaks I can get it home easier.

i won't be able to start on the rig until late this afternoon as it stands (on my day off) because i'm on daddy duty and the wifes at work until 5:30

i was surprised to see a set of 4.7 gear's is $600!

Keep your eyes open, 4.7 gears new but from someone on Pirate are about 375 and that's new. I think I traded a stock 4.10 third and 150 bucks for my brand new set of tg, obviously I would have preferred marlin but I'm building on a budget always so I'll take what I can get.

So giving me some opinions on shock size.

Distance from the axle to the shock hoop (eye to eye)  is around 24 1/2" .... I had planned on running about 4 to 4 1/2" of shaft showing so it'll limit my uptravel and I won't have to hack the fenders, firewall ect.. ALOT...  if I go with the 12" 5125's it'll give me 6 1/2" of shaft showing and if I go with 14" 5125's it will give me 3 3/4" of uptravel...  kinda inbetween where I wanted to me..... I know I could adjust/cut to make the 4 1/2" mark I was going for.. but do I really need to?

In your opinion would you go 12" stroke with 6.5" showing or 14" stroke with 3.75" showing?

Also... if I go with the 12" stroke it will give me about 5" of droop, the 14" stroke will give me 10" of droop....

Something tells me i'm gonna be going 14" stroke and cutting into the engine bay....f^(|<!

See how much the suspension settles with some driving / wheeling you might end up with 4.5-5.5" of travel better than starting with 3.5 and end up with 1.5-2"

I know dude, I know... I keep kicking myself in the @$$ for not hitting you up or bringing those duals by. 4x4yota you have a point, but since I built a RUF pack from used springs how much is it really going to settle? they've probably got 150k on them already in stock form.

So I got the steering completely finished yesterday and finished my brakes. Also welded some misc tab's back on along with part of the front hanger.

So i'm kinda getting impatient here...thinking about saying screw it and ordering everything i need to finish this so i can get on the trail THIS YEAR DAMNIT!

It has been WAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAY too long.....tomorrow I'm planning on mocking up my shock hoops, burning my 63's in because they're tacked right now. Going to get all the steel I need to build my rear shackles... they're just made with sh*t I had laying around to get them to the right length ect...

Then on to purchasing parts, i'll need shocks, tabs, some poop pipe for the upper rear shock mount, get these T-cases to kDUB for a look-see so I can slap them back in and order drivelines..... gonna buy rock sliders and had also thought about buying my 4.7 gear set and a winch for the front.

Don't tell my wife  :shhh:      She's already getting pissed because i'm looking for parts every chance I get during the day.

Hmm.. Bilstein or Rancho 9000XL?    I'm having a hard time finding specs on the Rancho's. Collapse and Extended lengths...

Found it! .... any opinions on Rancho vs Bilstein?    if I go Bilstein it would be the 5125's or the Rancho 9000XL's  999034

I have 9000s out.back and 5125 up front. Honestly.  The ranchos get set on medium setting and left alone. lol

Youll most likely be happy with either shocks

my 1st set of shocks were bilsteins 5125's and I blew threw them in less then a year. Threw on a set of 9000's in the front and I am running 7100's out back now. I will never go with 5125's again.

I was trying to talk myself into the 7100's because of the size....lol... collapse length on the standard body 12" stroke is 19.61 which would be perfect for my application.. but I really don't think i'd utilize the shock....i do like the fact that they're adjustable and rebuildable... wonder how difficult it is to adjust. When I had my pickup I ran airshocks and it was a complete waste of money and time.. they where way to soft no matter what "adjusting" I did...  :shake:

After looking at the specs on marlins site.. i'd probably go with the 14" short body because it has the exact same collapse length as a 12" standard body but has 2" more extended length. Anyone know what the big diff is between the standard/short body 7100's?  Other than obviously the "body" of the shock is shorter/longer.

Today's progress didn't go as planned.. tried working on the truck along with watching my daughter and damn near burnt my house down... while making my shackle plates for the rear apparently my chop saw light the wall on fire.... i didn't see it and was just working 3ft away rounding the edges on the bench grinder when i see something out of the corner of my eye.... "OH SH*T"   thankfully I was able to put it out with a glove... no clue how long it was on fire  :smack:    the other side of that wall is my laundry room... apparently I need to start using my chop saw on the ground until I can get some steel around the chop saw area to catch any hot pieces... i'd like to build a steel bench to work off of but don't have much room. The current storage system is a complete cluster F... but once the rig's out of the garage i'll have room to reconfigure everything and organize.

nice looking runner, and close call on the house. what i used to do was lay a welding jacket or blanket behind the chopsaw before cutting. but mine was attached to a table so it wasn't like i could take it off the stand and set it on the floor lol

thanks JD,

So today I burned the front spring hanger in completely, cleaned up the shock hoops for paint, finished building the rear shackles, burned in the front hangers on the 63's, didnt finish the rear yet... put the radiator back in.. starting connecting the steering hoses before I ran out of time.

Might do a little bit tomorrow... we'll see. I don't want to order the shocks until I get the hoops mounted or atleast have a set measurement to work around...

Getting there.. slowly but surely.... eager to get back on the trail before snow comes... hopefully.
