I dont think I've seen anyone cut the inner panel out like that before. looking forward to seeing what you do here.
That provides a good opportunity to weld a tube in there , like tacoma doors have, if someone was inclined to do so.

What kind of tube.. 1.5x.120 wall..
Also where would placement be.. possible right under center arm rest area.. I use the bottom as a storage area.. great for tree strap. And 25 footer. I'm planning on having inside, and outside latches..

Yeah 1.5" 1.75" whatever is laying around. I noticed it on a 2000 Taco door. I assume the tube is meant to add some protection in a collision. The Taco door was "well used" but kept its shape well because of the tube inside it. I thought it was a good addition by Toyota. In the event that the door comes in contact with a tree/rock it wont cave in.  If I where to give it a try on those doors I would put it right under the arm rest like you said.  I don't know, just something I thought about after seeing the Taco door.

Found a piece of 1.75x,120.. going to weld a 16 gauge piece of sheet to the 20 gauge oem. Then12 to the 16.. may give me enough room to maneuver it in.. with plenty of metal to burn in well..

Waiting on outer door handles so I can get placement. Got tubes dialed in. May have to run a pipe  thru the tube to get outside door handles to work for linkage..

I never thought to use a chainsaw to do metal work before. I'll have to try that. You got skills.

Got the other outside door handle sheetmetal done today.. was about to figure out latch linkage when I realized the replacement door handles do NOT fit.. starting the process of returning them. Searched another place to purchase. Hoping for better luck with the next door handles. The 1st ones where the black plastic type. The 2nd set are the metal ones..
