Started making template for rear bumper. I used 3/16 foam board. This pic is of 1st trial fit.

Looking good. The foam board is a great idea.

I can't remember how the 4Runner frame compares to a pickup, but if possible I would suggest adding a couple mount points to the underside of the frame. They will help prevent the bumper from slipping on the mounting bolts and pushing up in to the body.

Something like this:

Found a guy pretty close by with water jet for frame to bumper brackets.
Making a little progress.

I'm taking advantage of this 70° weather, was able to prime and paint my 5lb propane mount. Ordered some powertank rollbar mounts.

Well, my patience was running dry.  Every lead I had to have brackets made, all seemed to be dead ends. 1 guy wanted a dfx. File. The rest where just blowing smoke.
So I decided just to purchase 1/4 sheet of 1/2" A36.
Should have plenty of bracket material..HAHA..

Holes are drilled. Just need the weather to let up for a half day, so I can get bolted into frame to take measurements.
I'll most likely sandblast them just to get that coating off..

I like your consistent quality needs... I do the same thing.
Great bracket work.

OVRAROK

Was able to test fit into frame. Fitment was more then acceptable. Didn't like the square-ness around the 7/8"holes. Decided to round off..
Ran them through the sandblaster, then 120 grit. Good to go..

Are you going to add any triangulation to avoid it being tweaked to the side from a hit or off-angle recovery pull?

The brackets are 1/2" thick. 2x3 main bar is 3/16. 1/2" plugs at the ends. Im not to worried about it. I mainly built because I need a trailer hitch.
I think the bumper will take the abuse.

Primered. And painted. I used rustoleum professional primer, and semi gloss black.

Bumper is on. Bolted, and welded. Just need to paint weld from bumper to frame. Tailgate opens with 3/8" gap.

Sick bumper.     I want one like that for my truck.  I have been looking for a hitch for my truck, but most of the aftermarket stuff hangs way too low.  I tow alot with my stock bumper, and one day, I am pushing my luck with it.
