Washing a vehicle in the rain?

I don't recall ever doing that.

But since I like to do research, I did a little research on the topic.

I read a piece by a man in Ireland, where it rains a lot.

He listed the "benefits" of washing his vehicle in the rain.

1 -  It Saves You From Having to Pre Rinse Your Car Before Moving to the Shampoo Stage
2 -  It Will Greatly Reduce the Chances of Water Spotting
3 - It Helps To Rinse Off Shampoo

As for as he is concerned, there are no "real" negatives of washing your car in the rain.

The only two for him are:

1 – You can't towel dry the car after
2 – You look a bit mental to other people watching

Most rain has an acid pH and contains various chemicals and minerals depending upon the geographical location.

So is rainwater "good" for your vehicle?  – probably not a benefit.

Saves time no pre-rinsing.... It takes me about 30 seconds to spray down my truck before starting with a sponge or mitt.

Reduce water spotting... water spots. PERIOD. :smack:

Helps to reduce rinse off.... If I waited for the rain to rinse off the soap, it would take hours and never get ALL of the soap off.

Negative 1 - I can pull the vehicle in the garage and towel dry it off.

Negative 2 – Looking a bit goofy.... Yes, most people observing a person washing a car in the rain would probably question their mental stability.

The biggest negative for me would be getting all wet from the rain and here in AZ when it rains, it's usually very windy and blowing dust.
The rain is often blowing sideways at 20 to 50 MPH.
And, there is usually lots of thunder and lightning! :yikes:

Holding an umbrella while washing a vehicle would be physically difficult and very annoying.  Depending upon the rain, an umbrella may only keep your head and shoulders dry.

So... why would you wash your wheeler in the rain?  If it was muddy and dirty, the rain would loosen up the dirt and mud and make the washing of the surface where the rain hit much
easier.  BUT.. in my experience on mud runs, the mud is mostly under the chassis and wheel wells, and requires some time, and lots and lots of high pressure hosing to get it off.

Are there any benefits to washing your vehicle while it's raining? :dunno:

If I was driving by OVRAROK or Wainiha's house and I spotted them washing their vehicle during a downpour, I'd stop, roll down my window and ask "Hey... do ya think it's gunna rain today?"  :rofl2:

Wish it was that shiny when it's dry. The giveaway would be the chunks missing from the tires, and the heavy scrapes on rims edge. I had to take my Dremel with a sanding tool to smooth out.

Gnarls with the bikini top and half doors there usually no washing until doors and top go on. However with the rain, it just made sense to rub it down with a wash cloth. No soap. Worked out well for me.

I'm not exactly sure yet, was mainly used, just to try out the sandblaster. I'll most likely replace studs. Possible high heat clear. Then sell it.

Decided to paint the 4runner. Using rustoleum turbo cans. I was able to paint cowl and hood with 1 can of primer,  1 can of white. Hoping to be finished in the next couple weeks.

My PSC reservoir for power steering w/ hydro assist..

I been working on a lower pump mount. PSC wants the reservoir a certain distance above pump. I can't remember the actual height though.

The beauty of painting 4x4s - you're going to be smashing it off of trees and rocks as soon as it's done so that takes the pressure off of making it perfect. Looks like it's turning out pretty good there!

I agree, my main reason was to slow down the rust. I had alot of deep scratches, and dents that had bare metal exposed. Touch up will be super easy now, no more color match 20 dollar cans..

I made the exchanger, 1foot long 3" copper outside, with 10 feet of 3/8 copper wrapped on a 1" pipe to make coil. Installed into 3" copper with end caps. Soldered together. Has 30 psi on demand water pump. Plumbed through my heater hose, so heat is controlled with dash heater controls. In n out  quick connect fittings. Also has 40 micron serviceable screen. The IN hose has a filter at end as well, so I can drop in lake, river. The OUT has kitchen trigger sprayer attached. You can see in pics..
