The Turtcel build (turtle+tercel)
« on: May 21, 2016, 07:52:22 AM »
I've been wanting to get a Toyota 4wd car for several years now. I had been wanting a Camry all-trac but after looking for a clean example that wasn't rediculously priced for many months I came across this Tercel. I had had one several years ago and always regretted getting rid of it. They are fun to drive because they are so lightweight (2300 lbs.) I will be using this as a daily driver in the winter months and when I am building on my 4Runner. The plan is go through all the systems and upgrade/repair where it makes sense to me. Eventually I plan to install a 4A-ge 20 valve blacktop motor in it, Which should increase the power from 63 up to 160.

The car is being worked on at Zippo place so far. So far we have pulled the transmission, cleaned all the grease of it, put a new clutch in it and replaced the front axles.

Porsche Cayman has longitudinal mid engine Getrag transmission, would work awesome.

What happened got the tail lights?

You know what happened.  :shake:

While pulling the car into Zippos garage. The strap broke and the car careened down his driveway and crashed into the neighbors hedge. Also the door was open, and when it crashed through the hedge the door and subsequently the fender got taken out.

A new fender and door have already been installed and the factory paint has been ordered.

The shifter was so sloppy that I could hardly find a gear to go into, so I order a shifter seat and bushing along with a new boot from Marlin.

I got a factory service manual on eBay as well as an original owners manual.

I think that transmission would easily be more expensive than several times this car's worth.....

Pretty sold on the 4A-ge 20 valve. It will make this light little car go like a stabbed rat.  :burnout:

It's also one of the few engines that can produce 100hp per litter in stock trim.

Add a turbo...

I don't think the tercel transmission could handle much more power than 160. I also want to keep it naturally aspirated.

Go to Napa, and they can mix the oem paint in spray cans now!  Just need the vin.

I love the Tercel Wagons!  A buddy of mine always has 2 or 3 at any given time.  Plus 30 mpg all day long helps!
