I took out my overload, but am planning on running a traction bar. Mine sits pretty high. I think your stance on 37s is more how I want mine. Yours is looking sick!
Bobbed 84 xtra cab, pickin up parts as I go.

If at first you do not succeed, put it in 4low and try again.

Thank you. I am thinking of a trac bar as well. I get a good amount of wrap (I think it's cuz I have broken the spring clamps). I took out the #4 before the spring ever went in so I don't know how much lift they gave. I personally would take it out. Toyota pickup beds are not as heavy as a full size Ford. The lighter spring pack should really do you good. I also carry a lot of stuff around in my truck, even when wheeling, and I have never had an issue this the springs being too soft.

i know you have a stock hanger with drilled front perches and longer shackles? what size shackles? have you rubbed firewall with full flex and through the steering locks? and any vibes because of the caster increase? i think yours is a dd and mine seeing a lot of road time and highway speeds so thats why im asking you. thanks in advance.

I have 5.5" eye to eye. They're Marlins actually. Right now I am running my RUFs in the stock spring pin holes. I don't get rubbing on the firewall even on turning. My tires DO rub my leafsprings as they have begun to fan, even though its just a very slight fanning. I will be running 2" wheel spacers instead of my 1.5".

My caster has done nothing to my wheel vibs. It has although caused the steering wheel to pull more when I'm driving on non level roads. It could also be the tires :dunno: it will be fixed with hydo-assist.

okay cool. i appreciate it the info. your truck looks sick with the iroks. i did get some km2 35's i posted some pictures on the 37's and smaller picture thread if you want to check it out. i hope that ruf and my 5inch shackles take care of the rubbing.

Bout time you fixed that dang blue beast !!

Did they relocate you ?  I never did make it out wheelin again.  Sucks   I just go finished installing this newer trans I got.  It looked brand new inside, but I havent test drove it yet.   I am now running my ruf springs in the stock hangers and get the same issues.  Ive also got a ton of vibration but I am hoping it was the trans.
My caster sucks right now so I will be welding on a drop front hanger this week.  It should correct a lot of my steering issues.

jrock

A drop hanger and hydo would be nice. Not to expensive either, but the welder I now need to buy to do either... might be a hit to the wallet :(

Okay so its been a while since I posted in here with anything new. I added a used set of Marlin 4" springs to the front. They do ride nice on the street and I gained about an inch of lift. I'm okay with the height right now. I NEED a front hanger now to,  :nerv: dare I say it, lift the front a little more to let the draglink clear the spring on droop. I also need to move the axle forward more to help the tires clear the inner fender. I'm going to drill my perches to move the axle another 1.5 inches forward. And my shackle tucks up nice in there.  :eyebrow:

Next little deal is I'm going to fill in the old holes I drilled in my perches cuz they have oblonged and they're a little off. Then I will drill them correctly.

Pics  :turtle:
Like my ramp  :king: it got me about 30 inches.

I haven't measured the Iroks yet. I get back to you on that. The Marlin fronts are nice. They are just a bit more stiff than my 6 leaf RUFs and the truck doesn't lean so bad in on the road. The big reason I put them in was for the on-road driving but the spring clamps are nice to prevent the fanning my rufs had.

 lookin sweet!
Thanks but don't think I'm lifting it as high as yours :P

Tallchevy

I want to lower mine 2 or 3 inches and move the front axle forward 1 inch.

ah i see. i might just add a few rear leafs to my worm 3 inch downey's i have up front with a drop hanger. downey's ride nice in my opinion. those pictures of your rig at the top of this page make me wish mine was done already! haha.

edit: i dont think it says if you have stock duals or an ultimate setup? which one and what do you think of it?

I went through a lot of front spring setups. I could make a set of RUFs to match these but by that time I have put in so much effort and time, I don't see it being worth it  :dunno: . If this was not a DD it would be on RUFs and only RUFs. I have stock duals and they are awesome! I totally recommend it and would never look back. The stock dual is PLENTY. I only think about lower gears in the crazy rocks. I don't get those much   .

37 inch Irok radials are roughly a 36 inch tire.

81yotalove

thanks for the measurment on the iroks, i was curious cause my km2 at road pressure under my truck measure to 34.5.

im not quite sure what i want to do yet cause i know i could sell my downey's when i do ruf, or i could use some of them and rears to make a pack. mine is not a dd but will see road time to trails, camping, and such. what other springs have you tried? im trying to keep mine low im at 23inch frame with stock rear and donney pack with stock shackle front.

Also thanks for the advice on the duals. i bought a 4.7 kit a few months ago but then i figured out that stock low is needed in the washes and desert here in az so a doubler is in the works. might be overkill slow though.

81 swb 22re 35's

jrock

I started with stock front, then added leafs to it. Then used 2 Downey top leafs with stock few leafs bottom. 3 leaf RUFs with old stock front top leaf cut down on the bottom. A good pack was my last: 6 leaf RUFs, two rear packs put together.

If your going for flex and its not a DD I would run a 5 leaf RUF pack. If its soft just add a leaf :) Stock hanger and about a 5" shackle. I don't know Az terrain, that's just an option ;)

81yotalove

damn you have tried alot of setups. im going to be trying a ruf pack and stock hanger first then decide if i need a hanger or a different setup. what size shocks are you running up front and back? im looking at 5150 bilsteins so i wont get shock fade in the desert.

on the duals i will have an dual ultimate probably wont use low low first very often but once i get the bug worked out i will be taking it to moab and hopefully some of the cali trails like rubicon and such. id like to go to a marlin round up as well.
81 swb 22re 35's

jrock

I'm running 12" Bilsteins 5125 front and 10" Rancho rear. The Bilsteins are nice :) way better than the Rough County I had in there before. Those dual ultimate are nice. One day I'll have them but I have to say the dual stocks are damn good. Only thing I worry about with the ultimate is the torque on everything. I'm kind of hard on my stuff.

81yotalove

with the 5125's do you get any shock fade and bottom out hard when the shocks heat up?

i wouldn't be worried about the extra torque, so many people have dual ultimates with out any problems what about people with triples :yikes:. plus you tend not to bouce around as much which is actually easier on things i would think.

i figured the gear ratios in first low low i'll be at 206:1 and in 2nd low low i'll be at 112 which is probably around what you have. if i would have stuck with just single 4.7 my lowest would have been 90:1 and i wouldnt have had the wheel speed for loose stuff.
81 swb 22re 35's

jrock

I can't say about the shocks. I haven't run them fast yet.

I say your right about the dual ultimates. I'm just overly cautious about it all cuz I drive it so much :)

I love every episode. Ieen and Edward are an awesome combo  :gap:

Well not everything goes according to plan. I added the 4" Marlins but they turned out to be some weird springs. They are the 47.5" long but the front section is 22.5", the stock length  :headscratch: . So what I did was drill my perches to move the axle 2" forward where it should be and where I know the tire fits. The problem now is I get a lot of axle wrap cuz the springs are not meant to be run like this. Now I'm back to the start.

I cut out my old bump stops to measure for new ones. Everything hits  :o

The drag link hits the frame on passenger full stuff, steered pass.

jrock

Drag link hits the spring and TRE on driver full stuff.

jrock

Then the hard one, the drag link hits the spring and spring clamp (after I moved the axle forward 2") on passenger droop.

SloCrawler

good to know, i was planning on moveing my axle foward the same way
