You have a front drop hanger don't you? I'm thinking if a add a 3/4" or 1" drop hanger it will correct my caster angle and help with the interference. I very well may just put RUFs back in and sell these. I just rebuilt my old RUFs and added more leaf support in the front to help with the wrapping. I'll snap a picture of the marlins. They have very little leaf in the front now because I moved the axle forward.

SloCrawler

yeah i do. I need to drop it another inch or so and move foward also, my 31" tires almost hit firewall as is.

superyota

:yikes: looking at the negative spring arch, you definitley need bump stops to control your up travel. a drop box will help with pinion ange, and camber/caster, but not with the interferance.  BUMP STOPS is your answer to that.

So on Saturday I almost ripped off my front bumper trying to pull a truck out of the snow. So I fixed it. 1/4" 1.5x1.5" with 3/16" plating. There is also plating on the back of the cross member and bolts go thru the frame.

I also started on a York Compressor install. I don't have the stock Toyota AC bracket, so I have to build an entire mount for the York. Here's the start.

Band aid.

I'm living in Fortuna CA. Way north in Humboldt County.

So I got a terrific deal on a new Toy and I had to pounce on it. Its an 89 4Runner SR5. Its got all the bells and whistles and it is my new DD. Yay, I finally have a real DD!

Its an auto and a rebuilt 3.0, yucky combo. There is a bonus, it has a 4.7 gear driven Tcase and new crossmember.

My plan is to get this thing super clean and reliable. Add-a-leaf in the rear to level it out and possibly a new exhaust.

1uz-fe... maybe?

jrock

The OBA has taken a different route for the time being. I reinstalled the aftermarket, stock, AC pump. I will get everything run; tank(s), hose, valves...., and then try the York. I will be making a new bracket modeled after OOPS's.

jrock

Front hanger. Drop 1". Moved forward 0.75".

Hangers are 0.25" steel with inner of 2.75" and total height of 4" and 4"deep. Cross is 1.5x1.5x0.120".

Pictures in a minute.

i like the 4runner.  keep it that way.  it's a nice dd.

I plan to, at least on the outside  :disturbed:

Pictures!

It's not as raked in the front as it looks but I would guess to say I have an actual 4" lift in the front now. And a very usable 2.5" of uptravel. I took it for a spin and hit a few bumps and NO MORE hitting the bumpstops  . I think the rear is at about 3" lift.

jrock

Back to the OBA. It's now operational, if you want to call it that  :king: This is just to see it working.

81yotalove

you caved with the drop hanger! jk looks good man. i see you got a dd thats awesome, now wheeling will be better knowing it doesn't have to drive to work on monday lol.

fwiw my truck is driving again. the 35's clear nicely everywhere. with ruf i have 4 inch of uptravel, the f 150s have 6. my frame is 24 1/4 with my 35's. the disk brakes are awesome. i know you were thinking of doing them i would definitely recommend doing the rear disk brake swap.

i question about your front dshaft are you using two single u-joints or a cv? and do you have any binding at full droop? since i put ruf my cv and u joint look to be almost maxed out at ride height. i was going to just have it lengthened but i dont think the stock joints are going to cut it.

edit: i just remembered you have duals. you probably dont have d shaft issues. also do you max out your 12 inch front shocks?
81 swb 22re 35's

jrock

I should be able to max out my 12" but for my set up, they are terrific. If they are maxed, its just barely. I'm still on the wait list for rear disks. They will come, eventually.

I caved on the hanger   :_oops:  but it was to accommodate more up travel and to eliminate those hard hits when the bump stops hit. Plus, now my steering has more room and I have noticed less steering goofyness  :hammerhead: . My casture should be where it's suppose to be now.

I'll get a frame measurement tomorrow.

The DD is nice, but it is having issues right now. A small coolant hose on the back of the engine has sprung a leak  and it is going to be a PITA to fix  . But its a much better diagnosis than my original thought and fear, head gasket  :smack: . I'll be fixing it tomorrow.

:beerchug:

Trucks looking Jerome.  I see the paints still nice and shiny.  Did you move the axle forward any further with the drop box, or is it and the same location?

I got new to me shocks. 10" stroke. Plus, I picked up shock hoops for the front and 12" stroke Bilsteins.

10s in the back, 12s in the front.
how much are these shocks?
85 ex cab, 31s, 22r pretty much bone stock.

you mean $? depends on what you get.  they can range from $15 a piece for you cheap autozone shocks, and up to around $200+ for a higher end shock.

The Bilstiens are the 5125, they are $75 a piece. The rears are Rancho 5000, I don't know a price on them, they were free.

I did :) I just didn't think a picture would show anything special.

All I need now in a pressure switch and a check valve, I'm thinking a 90-120psi, and the system is done. Oh and an oil/air filter.

The plug is where the gauge goes, not entirely necessary but it's not hurting the bank. And yes, the air fittings are on reversed. I will switch them after I have the pressure switch installed. I don't want the system pressurized.

superyota

let me know how it turns out for you once you have it all hooked up and working.  I might have to build me something like this.  looks good.

I will. I plan to switch out my stock AC pump for a 210 York. Just have to make a bracket again.

I bet I could get another tank to fit.... hmmmmm... 8 gallons of air.....

81yotalove

the oba looks good. i will do a setup like that someday. i understand the drop hanger. like i said i will do one in the future but dont want to mess with it right now. i could lower mine some front and rear but i dont see the point other than just saying its lower. im getting greedy with the up travel since i plan to go somewhat fast through az desert sometimes. i also have remote res shocks for all four corners so i dont get shock fade.

jrock

Res shocks are cool. I have a set of 10" Fox with res but I can't justify putting them in the rear on my truck. The Ranchos are doing their job, just not as well as some others could.

81yotalove

as long as they work for you i wouldn't mess with them. i needed longer shocks anyways. after prerunning parker 425 last year in my friend's jeep i opted to get res shocks the first time around. the front were quality shocks but the rears were cheapos we were bottoming the rear constantly.

i see that you use poly bumpstops. i wanted to ask if they are harsh or do they give some play when you hit them? i got some big yellow gm bumps at the junkyard i just dont know if i want to use them yet. just looking for options really? they are soft though which would be cool to setup them up 1/2 to 3/4 inch to long so they soak up some bumps.
81 swb 22re 35's

jrock

These are Marlin's small polys. They are harsh. I use to use the old rears bump stops, I may put them back in.
