Jon's 85 Runner...
« on: Feb 01, 2010, 08:04:21 PM »
So I have alot of changes planned for my new toy/project. So I thought i would start a thread on it.

22RE with 206,000 miles. Rebuilt motor, tranny and axles 20,000 miles ago. Replaced stock t-case with 5:1 t-case from Inchworm at that time. 4.88's front and rear. Detroit ez locker in the rear, limited slip in the front. New head, new clutch and new interior less than 6 months ago. 3 inch Downey suspension lift.

So this weekend I got some time and built some rock sliders for the new rig to start giving it some armor...

These things are really beefy, they didn't even budge when testing them out.

Just so you don't assume, I welded the flanges to the frame. I DID NOT bold them on!

Yes, the flanges do have punched holes, It was because when i was at the metal yard, they didn't have any 4" flat plate in the rem pile, so it was cheaper to buy the base plates for $1 each.

Thanks! Yea I plan on building some armor for the front & rear bumper, replacing the stock trans x-member, build a rollcage for the cab, highsteer, and suspension upgrade since it only has 3" downey springs all around. I have alot more planned but for right now i just need to finish building the armor

Forgot to add, nice welds  :flamer:  Sounds like you'll have a nice wheeling rig once you get it armored up.

Yea, I'm glad that there wont be too much dust @ KOH this weekend from all the rain. Should be interesting with all the mud  :willynilly:

(65714runner) Yea, I'm running 33's with downey 3" Springs. After i come across some funds , I'm gonna put a 5" lift and shift the front axle forward so i dont have to trim up the firewall to run 35's

Tomorrow I'm gonna pick up the steel to start working on my rear bumper.. So I'll have some pics here shortly

When I was driving from the Backdoor to Chocolate Thunder at KOH. Found this little waterfall on the way.

I Wish I stayed till saturday to ride on some of the course, I know the photos i posted isn't much of a waterfall but we didnt have much time to go exploring while watching the race.

Haven't gotten around to finish the rear bumper yet. But since it was a nice day, Thought I'd go out and do some exploring. Surprisingly there was still snow. Its Really nice getting all the rain, everything is green now.

Two weeks ago she didn't pass smog so I threw on a Magnaflow Cat Converter and since the exhaust manifold was cracked I didnt have time to weld it, So a new aftermarket header from autozone was too good to pass up since i cant afford a header. Then she passed smog with flying colors.  When i get around to it i'll weld up the stock one so incase the aftermarket one takes a dump i'll have a spare ready.

Got some progress done today,  Got the frame up on jacks & Pulled the front D-line off to start my square d-line, Pulled off the front & rear leafs.

Tomorrow I'm going to start building my front hanger bracket & cut off the stock hangers & unwanted stock brackets off the front axle. Then install the rear downey 3" up front.

Got the front and rear ripped out, Cleaned up the front axle by cutting off the torque rod bracket and sway bar mounts.

Since Im going to run hydro, I Boxed in the steering stops to make them rigid since they were bent a little. Now they arn't going anywhere..

I installed the rear downey 3" springs up front today for a visual to see before i build my front hanger and move the axle forward more.

With installing the downey 3" up front it located the axle forward 2" and lifted the front 2" more then the orig. front downey 3" springs.

So tomorrow ill start fabbing the front hanger mount.  :flamer: Im probably going to move the axle forward another 1/2" to 1" forward. Not sure if I want to drop the front hanger an inch to give me a total of 6" lift.

It's sitting on 33's for now, I plan on running 35's and 37's sometime in the future..

Comparison of the downey 3" springs.

Front spring shackle angle at ride height.
