I may start doing that, the old one was obviously not original.  This one has to go back.  What causes them to go like this?  I am not looking forward to delving into the wiring, but I see no other option.  I can't figure out why it backfired out the carb and fried the thing.  I just want the freaking thing to run!!

poor engineering on Ford's part.  Loose connectors over time.

do you have SMOG inspections where you are? If not, you can get a points distributor and put in a Pertronix Ignitor and get rid of all that crap.

I live in KS...we don't know what smog is here.  Lets review, however...I have gotten the distributor to move, but I do not know if I can get it out.

Also the PO of my Toyota had wired some crazy stuff that would short out my whole truck and that was just the radio.

I can see the problem, there is a finger in the wires.

I cut the finger off and started in on the wiring today.  Here is what went with the finger:

And here is what I got it down to.  Few more loose ends need to be traced and ties up, but the great news is...SHE RUNS!  And I didn't need another ignition module, it must have been something shorting out somewhere?  I pulled a bunch of loose ends and taped up some exposed stuff...maybe I got it!?

What spare parts?  You mean all the lights and crap?  I figure at some point I can put in good switches and relays and wire them properly.  In terms of the coil and module...just keep the extras in the back of the truck in case I really do blow one up.

You were right on about that...finger was ground out the whole truck.  I took her for a ride to the gas station today, all good in the hood.  Gonna drive her to work tomorrow and see how she is running.  I don't have a working speedometer...don't know which wire that was, but I musta not reconnected it?  I will look another day.

The first thing I always do is clean out all the "what the hell wiring is this for!" out of all my trucks!  I had a older 2wd chevy lowrider briefly once, and I pulled out a huge box of wiring.  I've never seen so much wire that went to nothing and wasn't connected at either end in one rig.
Miss ya Dean (4THEWKN) & Kyle (KYOTA)!!

Unloaded she gets about 10mpg.  I am hoping that improves when I swap the wrecker bed for a wood deck flatbed.  Should shed about 700 lbs.

700# will hopefully make up more mileage while towing than while empty.  That bed has to weight half what my trailer does...OR MORE.  700 maybe a low estimate.
