IFS is best kept at ambient temperature in a pile of scrap in the backyard.  When kept under a functioning vehicle, it tends to greatly diminish said vehicle's offroad ability.     -reklund5

The Beast has been feeling a bit neglected lately so I decided to do a little work that needs getting done.  Decided to pull the carb and intake manifold to see if I could free up the distributer and clean up the topside of the engine while I am at it.
No probs getting the carb off...got spacer?
The manifold has been a different story.  I took about 1.5 million bolts out and all that has happened is a gallon of coolant has bubbled up out of it.  Why.  Shouldn't it all settle to the lowest point in the system?  Is it just WAY overfilled?

So now I got most of the coolant sopped up out of the top of it, drained what I could and I can't get the manifold to budge.  Anyone got any suggestions as to where you are supposed to pry to pop it loose?

BUBBA

Since your gonna remove it I would go ahead and replace it with an aluminum one.And if your gonna do that then you can get rough with it.Try driving a screwdriver between the intake and block at the front or back (which ever is easiest to get to). That should do it,if not the try sticking a long prybar into one of the carb holes and pry sideways.

But do consider replacing it with a aluminum one.HUGE weight savings.

I am considering ditching the plate.  I think the spacer has a port for fogger system now that you mention it.  I was wondering what that was for.

how about an engine hoist and an engine lift plate bolted to the carb flange.

you know...one of these:

Duffil

and make sure that ALL the bolts are out.

CTENG in KS

ok...have you seen a van engine bay.  i would have to take the radiator/core support out to get a hoist in there!
