There is good news and there is bad news that I hope will turn into good news.
First the good news.  I got a couple coats of paint on the center console and it didn't turn out half bad.  Little unsure about the color though.  HammerTone, supposed to be brown, but it is turning out more bronze/grey.  Will have to see how it looks in the truck I guess.
Before and afters: :dunno:

Now the bad news
I found what is likely the source of SOME of my bad gas mileage.  I was wondering because I am reading about folks with RV's getting better mileage than me.  Anyway, started it up to look for the exhaust leak at manifolds and started smelling gas as usual so I look underneath and fuel is CASCADING down over the motor.  Shut her down wit a quickness and pulled the cover off the engine.  Turns out the hose for the fuel line is split nearly the entire length...old POS.  It pumped about 6 ounces out in the 60 seconds I had it running.  At that rate I'm lucky to make it to the next gas station!

Hopefully this turns out to be good news for my mileage.

That might be a little optimistic.

My parent's conversion van has a lot of the same type of trim.  when the wood started drying out real bad, my mom stripped it, and varnished it.  You might want to try that?  :dunno:  I think you'd be a lot happier with it.  I'll try to take some pics when my brother gets back from wherever he is.

I got about 9.8 mpg.
No go on the strip and varnish, she is some particle board masterpeice.  Looks better now that I got it out in the light and such.
Got the nasty carpet out...other than surface rust, there is no big problem on the flr boards.

nice lookin tow rig. I guess to make up for that thing i'll have to buy a hybrid. :) hehe, Why not just go Rustoleum flat balck on the whole interior. It's worked for me so far. :) keep up the good work!
Starting from scratch again...

Flat black might be the exterior color, but it ain't no fun inside!
Fixed up the gas leak, nice hose!
Found the exhaust leak, third cyl. back on dr side, the gasket is toast.  Look at all the soot on the plug wires.
Couldn't figure out a better way and need to clean teh tub anyway, so I tossed the upholstry from the inside engine cover in with some detergent.  See what I can get out of it.  WAter is already NASTY!

It is outside hanging over the porch rail drying...interestingly, the colors are actually brown and white, not brown and tan like I had originally thought.

Some new color choices...the rustoleum for outdoor plastic seems to be just the ticket for dashboard type stuff.

We had the wood cup holders and stuff in our RV and boat done by these guys,we sent them the measurments and drawings and they cut and shipped it.  This was done 10+ years ago so I don't know if they still do that sort of thing but it was the cutting board material done in black came out good.
