installing CB / anteni
« on: May 07, 2008, 05:58:35 PM »
Well i decided to clean the shed and i found my old cobra 25 LTD.  So i went 2 the Cb shop had them check the radio out ( been siting 12yrs )  also picked up a 3ft firestick  and a mount and 18' of coax  for  55$

I decided 2 mount it batween the cab and box  and this required some modification  :flamer:

My buddy gave me a bra new in the box  cobra 21---- well if you can consider that new.

Now i am anal when it comes 2 a clean cab/install i think im gona mount the 21 under the radio.
here are some more pics  get more 2marrow darn sun went 2 sleep

The first pick i took the cut off tool and trimmed some metal and yanked out the foot heater tube  :cheese:

and yes that dark spot on the right side under the CB is where i melted the carpet  :hammerhead:

Ok suns out time for CB insulation

So with the dash apart  time 2 pull out the radio.  This is where i separated the front 2 plates for cutting.

I used a air cutoff wheel   bench grinder and hand file.   Using the CB as a template i marked and cut  then filed till i had a nice fit.

Note: Do not use 2 much pressure or you will break the metal like i did then have 2 weld it.
Note: becareful not 2 damage the outside cover when cuting.

Now i got run 2 the hardware Store for metal so i can mount the BC 2 the dash brakets.

:headscratch: umm wouldnt it have been easier and quicker to  get a magnetic mount atena and just stick the Cb under the driver side seat next to the shifter   :dunno:

I am having a problem with static feedback threw the external speaker when the CB is off ( everything off radio, truck )

i  got a arc when installing the assembly but the ground was not hooked up/ key was on ACC   so the radio was looking for a ground.

I check all the wires i could see and i see no chafed power or speaker wires.   I soldered all the wires/heat shrink.

But if i unplug the mic it gose away   or pug in the mic from the cobra 25   but that has it's own problems.  Im gona pick up a cobra   http://www.cobra.com/index.cfm?fuseaction=product.display&Product_ID=75&category_ID=34

Hey Joe, I notice that your CB sticks out just a little bit.  And here is a picture of my one buddy's cb install.  His sticks out quite a bit.  He said his sticks out because of the way his cables hook up.  Did you have that problem?
