Money is only an illusion...if I told you how much I spent building my truck over the last year, you'd  :toilet2: at how cheaply I've done it all for. (Maybe some MCR campfire conversation)

That makes it more worth it!  :gap:

MiniSimp

Yeah, money sucks, I think I've thrown at least $3500 in to my truck since I bought it for $900 in 2004.

I'd run it.  With a bottle of Thermo-Aid to get rid of water, and a Lucas Octane boost to make it burn again.
either that or make Molotov Cocktails.
When can I expect you? :talkingn:

Wermz84

Well, Molotovs are alway a hoot.  let me see when I can pencil you into my schedule.    :hahaha:

Getting ready to test the valve to piston clearance and my old head gasket wasnt as bad as i thought.   So I took some simple green and a nylon brush to it to get all the contaminants off of it.     :lipsrsealed:  I used my bathtub.     Its a pretty awesome hillbilly feeling using your tub as a parts cleaner.   :ha_ha:

You guys make me laugh.

OK some progress was made this weekend, not as much as I'd have liked but I was double and triple checking everything.  Plus a little confusion  :conf:

Clay test:
So for this, everybody says to use the old compressed gasket.  Problem was it is an unknown brand and after cleaning it I realized that it's compress measurement was much thicker than my uncompressed Toyota Gasket.  This would give me an inaccurate valve to piston measurement and I didn't have the money to burn on a new Toyota gasket.   So I decided to use the old gasket run the test, subtract the difference and see where I was at.   I think plenty of clearance .  problem was measuring the clay, every time the measurement came back smaller.

Old Compressed gasket:       0.094"   (no name brand)
New uncompressed gasket:  0.056"   (OEM Toyota)
Difference:                             0.038"

Now subtract that from my measurements, take away an extra thousandth for new gasket compression fudge factor and I should be in the ball park.   :disturbed:

Hopefully my logic is sound and I didn't flop anything up.   :gap:

1st measurement:
0.139" - 0.38" = 0.101"  That is well over the 0.080" Minimum listed by LC E

2nd measurement:  (like I said I smushed the clay some)
0.127" - 0.38" = 0.089"

Quiting time Saturday night.  (test fit of the Tchain cover)

Real progress on Sunday!!!  :hyper:

Head and chain cover torqued down, timing set, and cam gear torqued; all to fsm specs.    I of course went obsessive with the 0.006" lip between the block deck surface and the top of the chain cover.   :conf:  :thud:

Obsessive? Nah, as long as you feel comfortable knowing you did all you could to make it right so you won't have even the smallest regret weighing on your mind over any detail of the build.
