The other day it occurs to me that in order to put a new engine in I must first pull the old engine out.   So I've started doing the prep work to pull the old engine.   The other day I drained the cooling system (including the plug on the block) and thought to myself: self that seems like there is a bunch of coolant missing.  :headscratch:

Well I just pulled the oil plug and I found the missing coolant.  :hahaha:

And I just discovered that I cannot get my diff drain plug bolts out due to rock rash.  Dremmel time I think.

Weld the plug to the diff and forget 'em.

Ya, I'm thinking about it.  I just like all fluids to be drained before I open something up.  just seems more controlled to me that way.

Pull the 2 bottom studs out of the 3rd, it'll drain most of it.

Filed the bolts to get the socket on and had to use vice grips to get the studs out (the didn't look good anyway).   seems to be draining pretty well.   slow for my add tastes thought.  haha

What about those low profile plugs?  :dunno:

Rocksurfer

The plugs even the low profile suck, slide them against a rock and they come loose.

Well that settles that huh?   Your axle did have the metal protection ring around the bolt head right?     I think some of them didn't have that. :headscratch:

Wow!   Thanks, I appreciate it.

So now I just need to figure out a more effective way of removing the bottom two studs.  Destroying them with vice grips, and replacing them every time I need to change the oil just doesn't seem efficient to me.  perhaps one with a slotted or hex shaped end to get a tool on them.  :headscratch:

edit:  I would love to have them shaved though.

I would recommend replacing them with some button heads

Ya, it's extra fun when I have to grab a flat head and chisel out the baked on stuff just to get to the bolt head.

10 min of fun, not worth it.   haha

Progress made today.   :ninja:

5 1/2 hour pull out job including time to drive down and rent cherry picker.   Not bad for a Wermy by himself.  :yesnod:

Hard to believe that this piece of crap is less than 3 years old.

Cheezy re-man that gave me problems right from the start.   Don't buy Attarco.

But at the time it was all I could afford.  and I didn't want to F$%^ around with another Junk yard engine.
