OK, here it goes, whatever it may be.   :gap:

Been here for a while, so now its time to start a build up thread.  Though it will be a slow one. I have a new daily driver,  so time to get to work on this one.

The Plan~
Build as much of a crawler and capable trail rig as I can while maintaining street legal (mostly  ;) ) drivability status.  Gonna be tricky and fun!  It doesn't have to be comfy or practical, I just want to enjoy driving it and be proud that its mine.

Thanks.

Some history and catch up.  I have done a few cheezy Mods to it.   :cheese:

Here it is when I first got it and used it to go to work and school.   It was a trooper!  :yesnod:

The first Mod to keep me from killing my self.  $30 total mod.

Marlin Crawler Sliders  :turtle:

My friend did the welding, I told him how I wanted it.  Super stoked on how they turned out.  :D
Tucked in very high and tight.

Used the bottom of the door line as a reference point.

Did not do the Plate to the frame, but I gusseted at 10 and 3 O'clock.  working very well so far.

:shake:  Damn, is that too many links.  haha

Next thing pissing me off was the carpet and interior.  This crap looked like  :moon: it was time to go!  :yesnod:  There was probably about 2 gallons of spilt coffee soaked in over the years.

 looks good wermz.  with those gussets, you should be fine.  I wish I had done that right away, I've stressed my frame with just the legs welded to the frame :smack:

It appears that your truck suffers from "missing rubber clutch pad syndrome" as well :hahaha:

:psss: how you liking photobucket?

Time for a Bed Liner coating.

I went here to get the goods --> Durabak  Got the regular non uv stuff for around $80. Went to the hardware store and bought some other supplies for about $100. Roller, brush, pan, stir sticks, tape and such.

IT was time to get to work.

Garbage.

Broke a Snap-On screwdriver getting out some of the trim screws.   :talkingn:

Cool, hope it holds up.  only have a couple off good whacks so far.    Yup the clutch pad has been gone for years. every once and a while when its raining and my foot is wet it will slide off and I pop the clutch.     :rofl2:

I like the photobucket so far.  just wish i could upload an entire folder at one instead of individually adding each photo.  I was busy last night.

And like all good projects

It quickly became evident that it was going to take longer than I thought.   What I though was going to be a day turned into 3 1/2.
This is what  I found.    RUST

I could not just coat over the rust.  So, back to the hardware store I went.  Sandpaper, various Wire wheel attatchments for my drill, and some "rust mort" or "rust stop" chemicals.   back to work.

Here it is after Hours :thud: of sanding and wire wheeling, and allowing the rust stop to cure (activate) whatever the right word is.  It was cool how it turns black.

Here is how it looked for 2 days while I applied coats of the rust stop. I cant imaging why my land lady told me it was an eyesore.  :dunno:

O and I just applied the Liner straight over the hard tar stuff on the floor boards.  I figured and extra layer of sound dampening.

i've been thinking of doing this for a while.  My carpet is in ok shape, but I don't have the door rails anymore, and its starting to pull up.  That and its gotten wet a few times from rainstorms when I had my half doors on :smack:

  looks good wermz, I may just follow your example (and leave that tar crap down)

No problems at all!  That stuff sticks to everything, and then it kind of forms a hard candy shell.   :sly:  I did it last august I'll take another pic after I hose out the Mud from the last HH trip.

Some Parts that need to go in.

I hate Painting.   :shudder:

Tube doors fresh from the Powder coaters.  Go Ahead flame away I hate painting and it was cheap!

Brand new WeatherGuard Chest that I spent way too much $$ on.

For those old timers on the board you'll recognize where I got this from.   :disturbed:
Brand new MC t-case with 4.70 Gear set.

And finally a MC Twin Stick that I modified to fit with the stock 84 stick shift.
http://board.marlincrawler.com/index.php?topic=25376.0
I bent them both back apporximatly 30deg just over one inch from the base.  I also put a slight "S" bend in the lever on the left to clear the stick shift.  It clears everything just right now.  :yesnod:

Now everybody is caught up.

A place I used to wheel.

You go up Ocean street toward highway 1/17 turn left before the entrance like you are going to felton, make a left at the cemetery and it's down the road about a mile on the left hand side between the road and the SL river.

3 things wermz..

1.)   love the build  excited for what is to come..
2.)   No bobbed bed?? looks like your 1st mod might interfere? maybe relocate it??
3.)   I've seen this on many cars, and it has left me curious.. Being new to the whole "toyota" scene. (coming from jeeps) what is the purpose of the twin stick? is it to control the T-cases? without being on top? *noob question*

sick build keep it up!!!!!!

jimbo74

the twin stick controls 2 and 4wd operation one one side and low and hi range on the other... right?

there is a difference in dual cases with multiple shifters and the twin stick unit. the twin stick allows 2 and 4wd engagement and high and low range, where the stock shifter doesnt allow 2wd low range

We are all familiar with the typical J-pattern of a Toyota 4WD transfercase. The options include 2WD-High, 4WD-High, Neutral, and 4WD-Low. What you might not know is that these patterns are controlled by two separate shift rails that operate both 2WD/4WD and High/Neutral/Low respectfully. With Marlin Crawler's new Twin Stick Shifter, we can now separate these patterns and offer the user a 2WD-Low range selection. Since both rails are now independent of each other, they can be moved in any pattern desired. 2WD-High/Netural/Low and 4WD-High/Netural/Low. When used with a Marlin Crawler dual transfercase, you now have the option of 2WD-Double Low range. Marlin Crawler's new Twin Stick Shifter does just this and is very simple and innovative at the same time.
