Setting up gears can be tricky especially if you have not done one before. Factory set ups come with a crush sleeve installed. If you are freshening up the pinion and planning on installing a solid spacer, you will need to use new shim values and a press to install the bearings and pinion into the housing. You will also need a proper torque wrench in order to get the pinion preload readings. This is in addition to a dial indicator. It's quite involved. IMHO, I'd only pull the pinion apart if there were missing teeth or brutal slop. Most cases, you can freshen up a 3rd simply by tightening the Carrier Bearing PreLoad to 150 ft-lbs or so.

If I were you, I'd pull the carrier out of the housing, check the PBPL for 8-15 lbs and check the flange for slop on the pinion splines. In most instances everything is fine, it is usually the carrier bearings that back off or wear in with time.

My :twocents:

Therefore, I suggest: Don't fix what ain't broken! Keep your solid spacer for when you upgrade your gears.

Thanks for the input Synwars, I appreciate it.

i love mine ran it in the rear for a couple years then got a rear detriot on a deal and put the aussie up front, havent had a single problem.  i think the fact that they are so simple keeps them strong.

Just got off the phone with Sky-Manufacturing.  Ordered the IFS widening kit, 2 dif guards, and the axle truss.    :D

There were some problems with UPS breaking parts of it in shipping, even had to send the first one back because the tail end mounting surface was broken.

But Steve and Angelo at MC took care of me.  whipped it around in one day and shipped it right back to me.      Thanks Guys!!  I appreciate it.

Then UPS busted the bell housing, But I chose to just swap it with another one that i had rather than send it back again.   Again they were awsome about it and offered to send another bell housing.  I said that was ok.    Its at the glass-beaders right now!

Which clutch did you go with?  I got the 1600 lb-er and I love it...only the tiniest bit of slip, then sticks like glue.  Good for clutch roasters such as myself.
IFS is best kept at ambient temperature in a pile of scrap in the backyard.  When kept under a functioning vehicle, it tends to greatly diminish said vehicle's offroad ability.     -reklund5

I went with the 1200 for starters.   not sure that I'll need anymore.

Well I got nowhere today trying to pull the Tranny out..  :wall:  not do to lack of effort however.

I am my only help, and the truck is pointing down.  So the tranny tcase combo just wants to stay against the engine while the jack just wants to roll down hill.  I was under there trying to pull it apart, fight against gravity, keep the jack from rolling away, all while trying to wrestle the tcase and keep the whole thing from falling on me or the ground and work the jack handle.  :wall:   just to much for one guy.   :headshake:

I really wanted to be bolting in the new Clutch at this point.  There are only 3 weekends left for me since I work to much during the week to even think about touching it.
