I'm not sure what to do next!  I am in the process of moving into a place with a garage so I will finally be able to do some long term work.

My options.

Rebuild engine.  My current is driving me nuts.

I'm dying for a Marlin lift kit  (forget the engine, run it till it blows)

Dual cases.   which would depend on lift.  (I only want to custom build drive lines once)

:dunno:

whatya guys think?

BLACKDOG

I say rebuild the motor.  :dunno: If the motor doesn't work, then that fancy lift kit and dual cases are all gonna look really good on the truck in the garage.

True.  But everytime i get close to getting the lift something else comes up.  Ghrr!

It runs strong, it is just getting louder and I don't trust it.

In that case, get a bigger stereo!

If your going to pull the engine out, do it be for you lift it. It's easier to do when the truck is low  :twocents:

ultimately everything will be centered around that lift kit, which will allow you to do many other upgrades. Such as bigger tires, this will give you better ground clearance.. ect

Dual cases are nice but I'd personally go with the lift first then just add on from there.

Plan on doing both within close proximity of each other.. in other words.. save for BOTH and get them together.. you'll thank yourself a thousand times over    :)

I agree. But at the same time whats the point of going through the work of the lift if you dont trust your engine. You need your engine to go anywhere and if you dont trust, I'd work on it 1st.

I vote engine 1st, then the rest.

I say you put the lift kit on first.  It will take a while to get the engine so you might as well have something to do in the meantime.  Plus the lift is SEXY!!! ;)
unless this means you'll get a lot..then I'd go with that.

UM .......what he said

why not slowly buy the stuff you need fer the lift and save for the motor   :dunno:

there has to be something to work on in the mean time  replace the stereo and turn it up till you get the motor done, can the motor be fixed fer a cheaper price or maybe adjusted to stop the ticking and clacking  :dunno:

Hey!  :slap:   How can I save for one project while spending money on another?   :gap:

But your right.  there has to be something I can do in the meantime.  Winter is comming up, I will get it settled in the garage when I am done moving, and see what happens from there.  :yesnod:

I based my responce on his opinion not to deal with the engine right now. Of course the engine is most important as posted prior... but if he doesn't want to mess with it right now... then move on to the next.

It will cost you almost the same for the lift & tires vs. the engine (depending on the mod's you do). Rims & tires about $1,000 plus the lift $500-$600 (guessing). Engine is about the same  :dunno: If you lift it & blow the engine, you will be looking at a bad-a$$ lifted truck just sitting.

that is how I was leaning.   I just didn't want to deal with it right now, and I liked what you said about everything being sentered around the lift.     but ya'll are right.  what good would the lift be if I don't have a running engine, or one that I want to drive.    :)

At first reading everything I wanted to do to the engine would have set the price more than double all of that.   :hammerhead:  Now back to modest realizm.  LoL

Pretty sure I'm gonna do the Engine, thanks.  In the middle of moving right now though.

Still studying my options.  lots of calls to LC and my local engine machine shops, i have a few ideas of what I want to do.  Just want to do some more studying about: what, how, how much.

I still keep tinkering on the existing engine trying to see if I cant figure it out.

So it finally happened a couple of months ago.  Accelerating onto the freeway Boof!  Go Go gadget smoke screen, klunk klunk spudder ~ Nothing.    Dead in the water.   :gap:  That Attarco piece of crap finally gave up.  Only 2 1/2 years into it!  :haha:

For the record.  This will be my first Engine build!   I hope i don't screw anything up to bad.  :gap:   :hahaha:

now that that is out of the way.

Goals!
#1  Reliable

#2  Mild torque and power increase (nothing major here, see goal #1)

#3  Driveability - I need to be able to drive to the trail, whell for a couple of days and then drive home.

#4  Cant think of one right now, i'll put it in later.

Plan/specs

#1  Convert to EFI.  I have decided to go with the SDS EFI system.

#2  Mild Cam  (most likely LC)

#3  Block has been bored .030 over, blocked, decked, R&R'd all oil galleys.  Crank shaft has been polished and oil galleys R&R's as well.

#4  Unsure about what to do with the head and valves.  stock size i think.

#5  Drive able and reliable   :gap:

What have I got my self into..  :willynilly:     :woohoo:
I like to Drive!

70 Cam Guy

Can you pass smog with that SDS fuel injection here in CA?  I don't mean to pour salt on your cheerios but it's something to keep in mind around here if you'll be driving to the trails and back or using it to scare the hippies down there  :gap:
