Small Update

Swung by the machine shop today and talked about the head work to be done.  Not going to be as expensive as I thought.  Plus he will make sure the LC cam fits correctly.  He did tell me that he would need the seals though.

So another trip to the Hook up (toyota dealer) and some Duckets later.  I ordered an OEM gasket kit, head bolts, and some small parts for the runner.  As soon as they get here the Head goes into the shop.

what seals? there are no cam seals on an R-Series engine.

You're not done yet

I have no excuse!

Head is going to the Machine shop tomorrow at lunch.

Wermz84

Ugh.  Its killing me waiting for the machine shop.   :scared: :shudder:   Dropped it off Friday morning, he said it would be a couple of days.

Here it is dropping it off.

That is all   :gap:

Wermz84

Well I actually went out in the garage last night and got a small amount of work done.  Still waiting on the Head.

I put the crank and bearings in, and checked the main bearing clearance with some Plasti-guage, just to make sure.  The FSM was my best friend last night.  :yesnod:

All five are within the specified clearance, but I'm a little concerned with journal #5.   FSM page 54 Standard clearance 0.025 - 0.055mm.

#1  .038mm
#2  .038mm
#3  Between .038 and .025mm
#4  just a hair under .038
#5  Between .051 and .038

Any way, I'm new to the plasti-guage stuff and I say between because there are only so many graduated areas on the guage paper and the width of the smashed guage was between them.  what do you guys think?

Here are some :snapshot: for the masses.  haha

this is fun.

At the rate Im piling parts, I'll be ready to build before your done with your engine.
With all the work Ive done on my Big Rig and Tonka Toys working on a truck back home should be easy.

Keep up the good work.

Good eye.  It was a gift from my step dad.  He was a roller coaster mechanic until he retired, he gave me a bunch of his tools.  and thank you.
