Hey, hurry up! (but do it right)
If you need a hand on a weekend let me know, I'll bring Duffil down with me. <offers duffils services blindly> We'll have some good beer and BBQ to get you to the trail.

Never never never never put silicone over a paper gasket!! The silicone dries hard, and then the gasket absorbs gear oil and expands, the silicone is not able to expand with the gasket and it will leak like crazy.

BigMike

So evidently I'm the only one who lives under a rock and does not know this.   flop.   I just used blue RTV sillicone on my T-chain cover 3days ago and am :wall: now.

So do I start over nowwithout (using only the paper gasket), or keep going and fix it when it leaks?   :tantrum:

Since you are trying to make the round up, I would wait.

Get everything else done, if there is time, do it after you are done with everything else.

Duffil

you should be using Ultra Black if you need oil resistance anyhow.  Blue works best on water pumps...handles heat but not oil so great.

also, if the engine isn't in yet, do it now. way easier not in the truck.

Wermz84

Thanks guys.   I'm done for this week putting me back in jeopardy of making it.

Instead of dropping it in next weekend I'll be doing this over again.

On the head gasket where it says to use liquid sealer, what do you guys use?

Considered it for the last 20 min, but I just cant bring my self to do it.

I have to wait at least a week before I can order a new headgasket.  man this sucks

You might get away with just some quality silicone, but the two combined will leak. You are definately better off getting it done before you install the motoe. There are way to many brackets and junk in the way to complicate it later.

SCORE!
Even though I only had a little bit left on my CC i decided to get it done NOW!   Went to Toyota and by some stroke of mega-luck he had a head gasket in stock.  I thought they were like $80 but it was only $45.  :woohoo:

He also just gave me a tube of Toyota's Special Black sealer for the engine for FREE!  Saweet!  I bought the red stuff a year ago and it was expensive.

Stopped at Winchester got a felpro oil pan gasket and some Ultra-black just in case.

This will be done by tomorrow morning!!   :hyper:  And its going back together without sealer on the t-chain cover.

Lesson learned!  HaHa

Head to napa for the pump.  make sure you get a pump that is line code NWP...part number will be 55-XXXX.  Those are brand new Airtex US-made pumps.
I tried getting the pump you suggested Duffil to no avail.   Guy told me that part number had been super seeded, and that the Airtex and the house brand were being merged.  He could order me the new part number but couldn't guarantee which one would be in the box.

But he did find me a Japanese made pump.  Cant remember the name.  :headscratch:

for comparison the chinese made pump = $30.
                          Japanese made pump = $60

I also orderd a pilot bearing.

instock chinese $4.  (no thanks)   :ack:
special order SKF pilot bearing = $19

you'll be fine either way on the water pump. I usually put a few dabs on to just hold the gasket in place though.
