When I pulled my tranny and t-case together by myself I looped a tie down around them and up through the shifter hole in the floor board and over a 2x4. Then I could pull on the tranny to get the input out without worrying about a jack, once I got it loose I could just drop it down a couple inches at a time until it was grounded

worked for me, might for you if you run out of ideas  :dunno:

Thats a good idea.   The F'ing jack was pissing me off the most.   between that and the wood blocks under the wheels I should be able to get it..

wermz when i'm pulling my tranny I get a long breaker bar and set it in the cab. Wrap a tie down strap around the tranny and up into the cab around the breaker bar (after its been jacked almost into place)  then I just twist the breaker bar to move it up or down. Works pretty well...

good luck!  and be careful.

PICS!  :)

i used a cherry picker with a chain wraped around the tranny, worked really good and i was even able to set it on the gound. i had my seats out so it might of been easier, worth a try though :dunno:

  Make sure you got all the bolts out. Starter still in?

You really need to work on a level surface, but you knew that so nobody should have to tell you right.

At least yours isn't spread out all over the bench.  :willynilly:

Ya, starter is out.  I even left the starter bolt out.  (usually put it in so I don't lose it)  I've double checked 4 times.  :yesnod:

And yes I hate working on a slight hill, but it is either that or no work on my truck.   I have the the wheels braced.

I was being real carefull while I was underneath it.

OK.  So here is how one guy pulls his tranny out by himself on a slight incline.  :haha:

1st.  All of you that pitched in ideas.  Thank You very much.   I think I took a little bit from all of them.

What I used.

Jack
jack stands.
I didn't have a cheater bar or 2x4 quick look around my house, and Wala!  The tie rod from a Marlin High lift kit!

I'm going to do it this way everytime.   It was quick and easy.   :yesnod:

Other side. lol

Here you can see the slight incline.

Hows this for kick but ground clearance. haha

And lastly, a quick look at the view over Santa Cruz and Monterey Bay.  nice weather today.

Nice job! that's a good 6 or 8 inches...I'd say more than a "slight" decline... :smack:

Wermz84

Thanks.    yeah maybee.  but I guess i was thinking compared to a 30deg angle.  :hammerhead:

super quick.

I was hoping to find something wrong with the clutch and/or the throw out bearing that might explain the clicking noise.   but nothing.  All stock direct from toyota when I did my engine swap 2 years ago.

O'well.  cant wait to put my marlin in.

right on, i've never attempted installing one myself typically because I prefer to install the t-case and tranny all assembled.

I get atleast one other person and I just jump under the tranny with my feet on the bell housing and my hands on the t-case and push it up into place while someone manipulates it into place and installs a few bolts so I can let go... works pretty well.

the last time I put the assembly in.  I was underneath benchpressing on the housing while my buddie operated the jack under neath the tcase.

I don't think I'll have any problems putting them in in pieces, they are both brand new.  and they are light enough by themselves.

On another note.  Ive been focusing on the tranny so much that I completly forgot about another fly wheel for the new clutch.  :smack: quick trip to the store tomorow will fix that.   even though it is still new now is the time.

Just walked out of Winchester Auto almost $450 in parts.  $100 of that is core though.   All of which to go on before the round up.

For what? :yikes:

  • Flywheel  (new MC clutch not taking any chances)
  • Front Brake Pads
  • Front Calipers
  • Front Rotors (I splurged on these, the non machined areas are powder coated i.e. the hat.  I know kinda  :screwy: but that part always bothers me.)

I had completly forgot that the front brakes are Shot, and need to be fixed before I even drive it again.
