Can you pass smog with that SDS fuel injection here in CA?  I don't mean to pour salt on your cheerios but it's something to keep in mind around here if you'll be driving to the trails and back or using it to scare the hippies down there  :gap:

No.  I do not think so but thank you.      I like that "salt in your cheerios"  funny.

good times scaring hippies!   :gap:

you may be able to run the efi and not let anyone know about it.... im sure running efi will run cleaner than the carb did anyways....

I was checking out the SDS website. I think you would be better off & money ahead getting a 22RE or going back with the carb rather than adding the SDS  :twocents:

Why do you think its not that good tallchevy?  I'm tired of it dying on steep angles and all the other problems with carb.

I know you live in an area you have to smog your truck. It does say it's 50 state or california state legal. It says to check your local laws but it also says that it is for off-road use only. You have to drill your manifold to use there injector rail(from what I read). Just sounds like to much to go through when you can buy a 22RE or the 2.7 & be legal  :twocents:

Taken from there site

If you can't use the factory carburetor and manifold or if it is a really crappy design, you may have to fabricate the entire manifold from scratch. On inline 4 cylinders, this is some work but not too hard. Runners can be made from steel or aluminum tubing and the plenum from a larger piece of tubing of around 4 inches in diameter. A throttle body from any EFI car can be attached to the plenum and a flange to mount to the head is made from plate stock. All of these pieces can be jigged to a scrap head and TIG welded to form a good flowing, lightweight manifold. Check out the Tech article on building manifolds on the Tech links and Aircraft Page for more ideas and photos.

only vehicle regs here (on trucks and SUVs)
is Mud flaps, fender flares, and no Full Hydro.
otherwise just about all else is legal.

Get the early 22RE from a 84 & older Celica. Those are the same as the 22R in the trucks if I remember correct.

i thought the 22RE from the Celica and the 4x4, were two different motors...
different intakes and comp ratios.

whats wrong with your current carb setup? you mentione it dies on steep angles, i forget how to do it, but there is some modicication you can do to the stock carb that gets rid of that issue

also, from what i have heard, the aisin carbs on the toyotas are actually really good as far as carbs go, you just need to tune it a little bit

this is good info.  thanks.  I did forget to mention that I have already picked up the Manifold, plenum fuel rail, and a couple of other stuff from an 86 efi yota.  And I checked my 84 head.  its the later style so it will bolt up.  :crossed:

Nothing wrong with it, it runs Great, except slightly less power at altidude, and dying on off angles.  I Want EFI!

just remember, when you fire it the first time, you need to pour sandblasting sand in the intake to get the rings to seat properly. failure to do this will make it burn oil really bad.

:gap:

If I were you, I'd go with stock EFI. :twocents:

im still flabbergasted by the whole sand thing.
The sand rubs out any inperfections in the milling process. It's kinda like redneck blueprinting.

gotcha.
still weird..... i mean simply think about it.... sand in your engine :yikes:
