So it has begun. I am looking for another project, after the epic failure that was my last http://board.marlincrawler.com/index.php?topic=52277.0 . But holy crap where have all the good 79-88's gone! People wanting 3k for junk! Crazy! Anyone with a 83-88 22re? I might even take a 22r if the price is right.
If you see it, its for sale.

zippo

So, I just got back from checking one out. 87 22re IFS with 4" lift. Body/interior was ok, but had a bunch of after market lights and alarm systems added which is eh. Had some weird Idle problems, kept dieing at idle. The tires didn't match. Had clutch problems, and needed a front end alignment and a new exhaust for 3600!!!

I told I would make an offer (1500ish) but he wasn't going to like it, he said yeah he wasn't in a rush to sell it. I was like ok and left.
If you see it, its for sale.

Mytattootears

Yeah man price are crazy for 2nd gens, good luck on the search

87 4runner. First step engine rebuild as you can see by the lift on the floor. It runs, just not very well. Only 1250!

If you see it, its for sale.

Nice find! You definitely stole that one. I am glad to see you got a good deal after all your complaints about not finding any reasonably priced rigs. What are your plans for the truck, other than an engine refresh?

Ready GO!!!

Bout 60 min in.

1.5 hours in.

Cylinders are worn, but look good for 300,000 Miles! THere is a slight ridge, but not enough to keep me from getting the pistons out.

Out it comes, 2 hours after starting.

Cylinders 1 and 2 did terrible things to the head.

Here is the biggest problem. Broken exhaust valve, cylinder 2. And some barnicles on the spark plug... I didn't take pic, but the crank looks good but the bearings were starting to fail. This motor has never been rebuilt.

Spent a few hours, cleaning parts. I clean more then I work.

All done for the night. Block is stripped and ready to go to a machine shop. As soon as I find a machine shop. Thinking of taking the two hour drive to engnbldr.
If you see it, its for sale.

Got some done today. Blasted and painted all the motor brackets and what not. Valve cover looks awesome, high temp cast iron paint. I also drill out and cleaned under the baffle. Still need to drill and tap some holes and put it back in!

If you see it, its for sale.

zippo

Small steps every day. Drilled and tapped the valve cover to put the baffle back in. Need to get a bottom tap to finish it.

Cleaned up battery box rust. I think every old car has this. Stupid batteries.

First of many stops of the brown truck. Street RV Head from http://www.engnbldr.com

1985CRAWLER

very neat how you drilled the baffle out and cleaned it, not many to that and the only other ive seen is 22reperformance, they drill them out and tap them for screws.

So the block went off to the machine shop. 2 WEEK ETA! What am I going todo till then!

Finished the valve cover.

Got the Oil Pan cleaned and painted.

Broke the intake down and cleaned it. Had some problems with one of the sensors. Broke all the threads out. This is used for the EGR system which I and deleting. So I will just plug it.

Spent a few hours trueing the surfaces.

I will be running the PLX multi gauge for AFR and oilpressure. I can add more in the future. Found the perfect dash space and started mounting it.

Small progress. The block is at the machine shop. Prolly another week or so. Getting all the other loose ends tied up.

Got the wiring done for my gauge and 4 wire o2 sensor.

As you can seen I removed the steering wheel. It came with a removable grant security system wheel. But no key. I want to use it, or not have it. This thing was a pain in the ass to remove. So much so, after i finished removing it, was so impressed ordered a new one(with a key). It took me about an hour. I tried drilling it, then had to cut it off in small sections and unbolt it...

http://www.jegs.com/i/Grant/470/2001/10002/-1?parentProductId=746018

Found an replacement negative battery cable. 20 bucks from orileys.

I also got new door light switches. This things are hard to find and spendy ay 14 a pop from the dealer.

Other then that everything is cleaned and ready to go, Every bolt, nut tube, everything. Just waiting on the last box from putney at 22reperformance.com

w00t got the exhaust. I hope its not to restrictive :-p

If you see it, its for sale.

Slow progress, the machine shop said another week....

So while disassembling my intake, the EGR vacuum switch ripped out a large amount of metal.  Seems someone used a hardening sealer. I tried fixing it with a NPT fitting... Epic fail. Just not enough metal. I stopped by 410 auto wrecking and snagged a new one for $50.

Mo better.

Random pic.

Fixed some rust... I also fixed some small electrical problems and got the rear window working.

Rods from putney! ARP studs. Now i just need my block!

If you see it, its for sale.

I love 410 auto wrecking. It is TOYOTA heaven. I just need a bigger garage for all the projects I would like to build. I always feel like time slows down when I am waiting for parts to arrive.

Yeah they have a ton of stuff and are super nice. I have also used Olympic 4x4, but always have them ship things to me, it would be a 2 hour drive for me. Got an 2 1/8" tach all mounted up. I really like the location i got it.

I have been working up in the area lately and need to check out Olympic. I need a FJ80 dual diaphram brake booster and I know they have one. You must be close. I'm in west Seattle. Are you on the east side somewhere? We should go wheeling sometime or do some wrenching.

I'm in Gig Harbor, just on the other side of the narrows bridge. I'm up in U District, Renton and Auburn all the time. Just let me know!

So I liked the idea of a removable steering wheel. But the Grant Security 2001, is well not in stock anywhere. So I found NRG https://www.getnrg.com/ I have to say. Its nice stuff.

Also threw a cheap alpine deck in it.
