So I got bored waiting for my block which is dangerious. Sooo I started by porting and polishing/gasket matching my intake.

Still not tired. And knowing i'm running a Big bore throttle body and EGR block off, I turned the intake over, and removed that stupid hump, blocking the intake or earlier models... I have only seen a few pics of it done, I think it turned out ok. Wish I had a better die grinder/dremel. Brillance or idiocy, its done. Comments?

If you see it, its for sale.

Great way to spend your down time. I bet you'll get a couple HP's out of it. And it didn't cost you anything but your time. Nice work!

My truck is getting the front axle rebuilt right now so I can't go wheelin either. But you have your engine back from the machine shop. Maybe we should do a work day one of these weekends.

Still have some tuning daemons to work out. Need a new VSV (opps putting things in by myself), t-case mount, Speed-o cable and a few other small things. I will chip away at it.

Looks great man! I'm currently in the middle of building a 22re that im swapping into my 1980 truck. I ordered a engnbldr head as well with their 261 crawler cam. Let me know how you like the head and all the other stuff you got from engnbldr

I really liked the engnbldr. He was cool on the phone and I had the head the next day. (I only live about 2 hours from him) Another good source is http://www.22reperformance.com/22RE_Performance_-_Rebuilt_Engines.html I can not say enough about putney. He was super nice on the phone answered all my questions. I would recommend them to anyone over anyone else and wish I had found him earlier, he can also get you a lot of odd ball parts.

The one regret I have is the PLX gauge. For the money they aren't worth it and the oil gauge, seems flaky at best. I wish I hadn't used them at all :-( I might remove it. I am always careful not to modify things to the point I can't put them back.

OUCH! The gas mileage on the Tacoma wasn't that great so about a year ago. I traded it in on a 2013 Honda Civic SI. Now the 4runner is my toy. I don't have any plains on throwing this one away!

I hear you on that! I just bought a 2014 Tacoma in January and the gas mileage sucks but I still love it. I will probably get a smaller car too in the next year. I will have to live through my kids when they start driving in another year and a half and get them a cool older toyota :)

So I made some of progress. I put a marlin hd t-case mount on. Got the front end aligned, new TPS sensor. Still need a new cold start thermo sensor and speed-o cable. I think the power steering idle up valve is broken, which im looking into and I'm not 100% happy with the mid rpm cam. Think i might swap it out for a torquer cam or something. we shall see. Also found the trans leaks! Pulling it tomorrow for a rebuild... Enjoy!

Where is your tranny leaking from? Mine is leaking at the center plate.  And my t-case is leaking at the output plate gasket. I need to rebuild mine too.

Input seal and bearing holder gasket. Got it out and to the shop. I dont have time to rebuild this one. Someone also used a pipe wrench on the fill plug. Who ever you are. You suck don't ever do that again it  took me for ever to force it off. Case will also get a rebuild. But they are quick. 2hours max. Ille let you know how this shop does. Puyallup Transmission.  Got good feed back about them.

Rebuild was $350 plus tax (384 ish), but I pulled it and supplied a marlin rebuild kit $299. If they pulled it, $765 and no idea price if you didn't supply the rebuild the kit. Puyallup  Transmission.

The odometer reads 307,000 miles. No idea if it has ever been rebuilt or its history. Same with the T-case.

So i got the t-case rebuilt. And bolted to the trans, but didn't get it in the runner. Sadness. Oh well I'lle get it one day.

I spend more time cleaning then I do wokring....I need a parts washer or something.

I think the t-case had been rebuilt in its life. This bearing had an extreme amount of wear compared to the others. It prolly wasn't replaced. Its a pregnant dog to get it out and in. I use a small bearing puller with its arms flipped over and a socket in the middle to keep them forced out. I can't seem to find a pilot bearing puller big enough.

No I won't touch the axles. They seem to be in good shape. And I plan on swapping in Diamonds at some point.

Yeah I've been bashing on the thing a lot last few weeks. Got the trans/t-case installed. Started raining, all that is left is to bolt in the drive lines. The only hitch, one of the cross member captured frame nuts broke loose. Not sure how I'm going to fix it.

So I have been trying to beat out the deamons, and I think I got the last on. I had been having weird low rpm grunt from 1500-2500 RPM. I had been checking everything and was begining to beleave it was the cam. so I degreed the cam

Cam lobe center came in at 101 deg and the spec sheet called for 106. I talked to LCE and they advised that wouldn't be enough to cause the problems I was having. So I checked the plugs again and found number three plug looked odd, slightly cleaner then the others. I kept digging and found that one of the terminals in the number three injector plug had been pushed back and was only making intermtant contact with the injector. Fixed the plug and now she is running like a scolded dog.

Thinking I might get an adjustable cam gear down the road. But for now i'm just going to enjoy my work.
