Actually, we do laugh about that calender. I believe it is a 1995 (or is it '93? maybe it's even older then that) calender. We always joke around that the girl immoritizlized for all eternity in her youthful beauty and has been admired by many probably now has 8 screaming kids by five abusive crack addict fathers and she now weighs in at a svelt 283 pounds. :rofl:

I'm doing my part to help pay for all the space I use here. I just put in another order with Marlin for a V6 housing, 5.29 gear set, Tcase OH set and what else I can't remmember. I also ordered the Bobby Long axle set for the front. :muscles: I picked up a T case from a friend to tear down for parts. All this in one day. :hammerhead:  I gota get cranking on the Tcase mod so I can convert to the V6 third before the Rubicon.

After putting about 500 miles on this thing I noticed the transmision is starting to have trouble getting into third gear on up shift and third and second on down shift. I pulled the trans to check the pilot bearing. It is free and has no signs of locking up. Once you come to a stop and shift it the first time it shifts fine. You can force it into gear, but it seems like the syncros are having trouble matching the speed. If you rev the motor it will some times go in. It was working fine when we first started driving it and I can't see any reason why it should start having problems now.

Also 5th gear was having problems getting in all the way the first try, but would go in. Now it seems like it gust won't go in far enough to do any good, it just keeps grinding and jumping out.

Any Ideas?

I know this is a weak idea, but what gear oil are you using? It sounds like your syncros have seen some use. Try running some thinner synthetic oil, maybe that will help?

That's possible I guess, but I just don't understand why it worked perfect for 500 miles and then started slowly getting worse. I thought maybe the hydraulics were going bad and the clutch wasn't disengaging all the way, but that doesn't seem to be the problem. Is it possible the clutch disk is dragging the flywheel enough to cause this problem? There seems to be a bit of a step on the input shaft, but it isn't tight.

I would think that if it were the clutch disc or flywheel, that it would occur in all gears, not just three.  It also appears that the problem does occur on all three shift rails.  Check the shifter base where it meets the shift rails.  Couldn't tell you what to look for though.

The shift rails are free and move smooth. Sitting still it shifts fine, but when moving it has trouble like the syncros are sticking. Mike may well be rite, but I don't know how it worked for so long then all of a sudden went south. I am going to pull it apart tomorrow and look at it. I also need to see what is going on with 5th gear.

I cleaned off the operating table when I got home so I could start making my custom transfercase. I picked up a couple complete cases and found a couple that were for parts only. The objective here is to get a lower rear output to correct my driveshaft angle problem so I can get rid of the high pinion rear and go V6 third.

is there a way to possibly make an off-set Toy transfer case work, then clock it down a little bit, so you can bolt it up to your low-pinion V6 third? :dunno: just a suggestion, don't know how feasible it is....

I got the first two cases stripped down and started looking to see what options I have. I want to use the front gear set to move the read down and to the side. I am not completely sure how I am going to do this yet, but there seems to be a couple options. I was thinking of having the output come out in the same place as the front, but may opt for a little lower and closer to the center. This way the case won't have to be so thick to house the gears.

I think you are talking about the Crusier case? That is a chain drive isn't it? I want to use the gear case and the 4.7 low. Maybe if I can make it real short I may be able to go duals too.

Thats cool I like ideas.

I can see here that just welding a case together won't be the best way to go so I will need to practice my casting skills so I can cast the cases.

This mod may even beat the transmision work.  :ha_ha:

I wouldn't miss it for any reason. :disturbed:   I will run the high pinion if I have to. It has already survived snatching out 5 full sized truck from their doom. This is a side project that won't keep the Mammoth out of service. How's about you, Better not whimp out or the Mammoth will have to drag you kicking and screaming. :ha_ha:

Wont happen, ive been working on the rig just about every day now. Lots of little things pop out of the woods when you get your rig from a junk yard. Ill be there.  :thumbs:

Ive actually only been 4 wheeling about 3 times, and drove for about 10 minutes.
