Got the ram assist done and it works pretty good. There is a little wander going straight down the road, but nothing that is hard to control. Not sure Yet how much extra power there is, will have to report on that later.

The roof rack is done and can be scratched off the list.

I got my square drive shaft done and I feel like a real dumb @$$. I used the early drive shaft for the parts and didn't find out till after I ground out a place for the grease fitting that the newer shafts have more room around the joints and more ability to bend more.  :smack:

Skycraft is where I got the tubing for the chains, the guy there was having a good time helping me decide what would work best. I love that place, you just walk around with all kinds of ideas coming to mind.
I haven't seen that other one but someone else around here told me about it not too long ago too. Where abouts are you Insti?

The only thing I don't like about Skycraft is whenever I go in there for 1 item I walk out light on the wallet with a bag full of goodies and 4 more things I have to do!!! I'm over in Deltona but I drive truck localy so I am all over central Fl. just about everyday. My truck is just about done and after some testing I'm going to put together a different type of Ocala run, I'll let you guys know whats going on when I start. It should be after you come back from the con.

Nissan's need Marlin too. Won't you help?

Yea Yea, I know! it don't fit with the damm rack on. It's a royal pain in the back side, but it won't need to be on very often.

I just had to share this. I finished the new spare rear draveshaft and got it installed. Who would even know there was a spare hidden somewere if it wasn't for this thread?
And in case you hadn't noticed the front hitch is done too.

Well, I didn't get as much done as I wanted to, but I did get the Jerry can hung on so it is out of the way. Now I need to build a deck over the rocket boxes to hold them in and give us a place to pack more stuff.

Still looking for a 85 or newer driveshaft slip so I can get the square shaft done right. Anybody have anything?

I also need to come up with a E brake of some kind.  I am thinking of using a pull handle between the seats that is hooked to the brake pedal so it pulls the pedal down when you pull the handle up. :dunno:

Yeah, like a car e-brake with a ratchet lock.

How is your departure angle with the spare and Jerry can on there?

Better after I make the skid bar, It's not too bad now, but rather than drop off on the tire or can I want to make a skid bar that slips into a trailer hitch.

I also bumped the side of the front tire against a tree and turned the wheel. After revving the engine a couple times it pushed the Willy over away from the tree. That ought to be good for breaking something. I see 6 stud knuckles in my future if that happens. :gap:

I would love to do it that way, but there is only 1/2" between the flange and the floor.  Thanks for the input though.

I was thinkin about a timing pully that has the cog grooves and a shoe that has cogs to match that pulls tight with a cable. Darn if I can't find my pullys.

Have you thought about a band brake? I'm sure you've seen one somewhere, they're used on epicyclic gears to actuate them, amongst other things. A steel band with brake lining material runs around a brake drum on the outside, one end of the band is fixed and the other is pulled to tighten the band against the drum. There must be a four or five inch brake drum in the breakers yard somewhere that you could turn the outside smooth to accept a band? The band itself would be quite simple to invent, riveting brake linings backwards  on to the band. This would have a gradual release, unlike a "cog" system.

Just my two euro cents,

Matthew

Alot of older Jeeps came with a drum parking on the transfer case from the factory.I'm not sure what years, but I had a 71 cj5 that had one. Those didn't work well at all.You would be better off with a disk and pads rather than a drum,If you decided to go that route.Personally I like the idea of a positive engagement parking brake. There wouldn't be no chance of it slipping and your beloved rig rolling off into the sunset. It's not a good feeling to see your rig leaving without you, believe me I know.

Here is a shot of the rear of the transfercase showing how much room I don't have for a disk.

I like the cog brake idea too, but I don't have time just yet so I plan on having a hand brake that pulls the brake pedal down. So long as the hydraulics are good it will hold all four wheels. :crossed:

I knew I shulda explained my plans here.

  I was going to build a custom T case to lower the rear output and put the V6 in the rear, but time has run out. I decided to keep the HP in the rear and have built a spare driveshaft. I needed a spare HP 3rd in case, but the gears aren't available yet. So I built the V6 and put it up front now while I was in there doing the Bobby Longs. That way I don't have to do it on the trail when I need a HP for the rear.

I know this is all wrong, but that's what makes it intersting.  :_oops:

Labor Day update day one: I got the front diff done with the V6 3rd and Bobby Long's. Also manager to cut up a perfectly good 84 front Axel housing and weld it to the front bumper. :shake_head: Just so I will have a to place to hold my spare diff, like everybody has a spare diff on their front bumper. :disturbed:

:clap2: Did another flex test to see if the tire will hit the spare diff and it does, so I moved it a bit. I also got 30" of flex this time which is 6" more thane the first and 12" more than the last. I may take a spring out of the front still. More on that later.
