THAT ISN'T MY FOOT!!!  :slap: That was our self proclaimed nosey neighbor Jerry, (hey Jerry   I know you're reading this) but he didn't know what Mark was up to.

For future reference: I don't wear sandals! If you see sneakers, or more likely, boots, then that would be my foot.

Ok wait.  You're casting YOUR OWN case!?!?!?

Now I thought I was a do-it-yourselfer but that is just cool!  Just a thought, but with your milling/machining ability, any reason not to use a chunk of billet?

He thought of that but that is much more expensive. We'll see how this goes first. It's very experimental. Or so I've heard tell.  :disturbed:  I'm sure he'll fill you in on the details!

Back on the transmision problem at hand. I tore it down and inspected it. I didn't find any thing except for the 4th gear syncro is draging causing the input shaft to spin at the same speed as the tailshaft. That is why it is hard to shift. I replaced the syncro and put it back together. I found it will spin free without the transfercase installed, but as soon as you bolt up the transfercase it gets tight again. I will have to remove the transfercase and check to see if the tail shaft is being pushed forward by the transfercase. There was a lot of metal shavings in the oil so I think it wore in and got tight. We will know tomorrow.

I figured out the trans problem. The transfercase was putting a side load on the tailshaft causing it to bind. I clearanced the tailshaft housing and it turns free now. Must have had something to do with snatching out those 5 full sized trucks last weekend. It is all back together and working fine now. Even 5th gear works. Amazing how a simple snap ring can make a difference. :_oops:

We are going to drive it tomorrow when we go looking at motorhomes.  :crossed:  I'm not worried about the Willy, I just hope we can find a motorhome we can afford and they will take our trailer as a trade.

The test went well, but now I have to figure out how I want the gears to sit then build a Styrofoam case so I can cast it. This is going to take time.

So when you build the case you piece together the styrofoam into the shape you want?  Do you use glue to do this, or do you just lay them together?  This is cool stuff Mr. Willy

I was thinking about how to correctly cast a piece and came up with this idea

put some wet sand on the bottom than put the styrofoam on it and cover with wet sand, then take the whole thing put it in a oven to warm it up, also you should make a sort of place in the sand to help putting the aluminum in the hole.

We found this motorhome we liked, but not sure we will get it. It's more than we need to spend after the Mammoth and all.

So we did a test fit in our trailer. We had to change the rear tires in order to get it in.

The foam part will become the part. The molten aluminum will vaporize the foam as it is poured into the sand. You have to be careful the sand is not wet or it will explode with the heat of the aluminum. (1650 degrees)

You should find a bigger trailer, you know one that you can fit two rigs in  :eyebrow:
then you could just swing by and pic me up on the way

We tried that, still wouldn't fit and you can't steer with 4 flat tires.
