While you guys where playing around, I was out there working. So I bet you would like to know what I was working on. Well I'm gona tell ya. It goes like this, when I welded the tailsaft housing it warped from all the heat so it needed to be milled down to make it flat again. Then all the other surfaces needed to be machined to make sure they have the rite step. Next the shifter shaft will need to be bored into the plug that was welded in.

The shaft isn't welded into the housing :smoke: JK

I shortened the trans by about 5" and had to shorten the tailshaft housing. That left me with almost no room for the shifter shaft and no support for the back of the shaft. I welded a plug or bushing into the back of the housing that I need to bore out so the shaft has somthing to slide into.  :crossed: Hopeing I have enough room so I can use 1st, 3rd and 5th. Otherwise I will only have a 2 spd.

Trust me I "think" I know what I am doing :headscratch:

not the first time fer that, fer'sher! Needless to say (why do people say that and then proceed to say it anyway?) he is the master of "trying something different".
Anyhoo, I'm back from the  bridal shower (actually, it was quite fun  :beerchug: ), Mr. Willy is putting the transmission back in the case. I'm sure there will be more to follow.

Well I got the trans finished today, but not without my share of problems. First the plug I welded in didn't stick through enough and I had to add a piece so the shifter shaft wouldn't slide out of the hole. Then I didn't have a boring bar long enough to bore the hole for the shaft so I had to use the shaft and grind a cutting edge on the end that was going to be cut off and use it to bore the hole. After all that I started putting the trans together and found the first/second fork Had the plastic coming off. I had to stop and braze it up and reshape it. Tried to use the milling machine to shape it, but found that it wasn't jigged rite so I had to use the grinder to finish it off. Just when you think nothing else could go wrong I found out that I lost an interlock pin at some point and Had to make one of those too. :tantrum:

Any way the important thing is it is done and it works. I put the transfercase on it and filled them with oil. I then ran them on a drill and shifted them through all the gears to get oil flowing.

Tomorrow It's time to install the engine, trans and transfercase back into the Willy. :dancing: :bud: :cheer: but for now it's time for some

As you heard the engine, trans and transfercase is in. I didn't like the stock gas tank because it didn't fit rite and there was a lot of waisted space around it that could be used for fuel. I used up the rest of the metal from the hood to fab a fuel tank. We calculated 16 gallons without the drop section. I had to cut up the floor to allow for a section of the tank to be able to transfer fuel from one side of the tunnel hump. Had to cut another hole for the drop section of the tank. The drop will help keep the engine from starving for fuel on off angles. You don't want to run a diesel dry.
