Is this a 4 or 6 cyl? and is it electronic or mechanical injection?

1kzt is mechanical, 1kzte is electronic, but if you do it right you get everything from about the a pillar forward, so everything you need is there.  They were in surfs(4runners) and third gen trucks in the early 90s, but are still regarded as one of the better toy diesels.  3liter, I wanna say something like 120ish hp and 160+ torque, they redline at about 5000rpm, but don't know on the weight.  They're spendy too, about $3500 for an automatic tranny model and $5000 if you want the 5spd.  It's just a pipe dream of mine.  There's a place in georgia I believe, that imports them, named jarco.  This is what it will look like when it arrives.

I phink he look'id into dis a 'iddle beet.

Whatcha think MrWilly...??  That looks rocking to me. I actually know someone who has the 1kzte in their Yoter. We lived over a quite large hill and they never complained about power and such.
This wasn't a 4 wheel drive, but it did ok going up and down the hills. 1,700 ft climb up the hill 1,800 ft down the other side... in  umm.. 15 miles? I think.

Yea, I've never heard anybody complain about the power of that particular diesel, but they do about the L series.  And one of the jarco guys (mike hooper I believe) goes over to japan and runs whatever they're going to buy from what I understand, I would assume so they know that they're getting good product.

I never knew they came in 2wds either, but I don't know a whole lot about them.  Only seen them offered in the surf and truck halfcuts.  I'd be really curious what a 2wd halfcut would cost, maybe slap it in my 81 2wd.

I am actually not on the best terms with the persons anymore that had the vehicle, however, my best friends mom is a boss of one of the people. I'll try to get a 2nd hand review and some better details from this. Heck, maybe they want to sell the vehicle....never know.

I am going to look into the 1kzt, I like the fact the exhaust is on the passenger side away from the brakes and the turbo inlet is over there as well. I do not want the electronic version for a bunch of reasons and I am not to keen on the timing belt or cost, but I am going to contact JDM about this over the TD27.

Ok, I knew my numbers were off, and it looks like they were more along the lines of the 2Lte.  Here's what I found for the 1kzte:

KZ series (3.0)

1KZ-TE SOHC 2 95 2982 125@3600 219@2000 96 103 21.2:1

That's a little better!

nobody wants to see that. It is only a new turbo exaust housing and a cam plate for the injection pump. O and some gauges.

Come to think of it, how is that worth $1400?  :smack:

Thats the kind of tech I was hoping for in the tow rig section....especially from a mad scientist like you.  I, for one, would be interested to see that...especially in a "pusher" form as it's setup in the LBC.  My friend at work has a 6BT in his Dodge, and we're just learning how to tweak it...

And yes, that was worth $1400 if it drags the trailer up the hills a little easier....

:blah:

After spending all weekend on the LBC, I finally got to work on the Mammoth, but not before I had to do a job for work.  :hammerhead:

I cleaned out the welds inside the manifold and smoothed out the runners.

Then removed all the stuff from the engine (again) and installed the manifold to mock up the turbo flange. Also tacked the down pipe bends for the exhaust.
