I've been off line for some time, so a little late in picking up the supercharger thread. If I remember correctly, (a little over thirty years have gone by!) two stroke diesels of the Detroit kind cannot run without supercharging, as the crankcase compression isn't sufficient and uncontrollable over reving due to lubricating oil creating fuel excess. Turbo charging and suppercharging have very similar effects on diesels. Not much point in doing both, just a question of getting the boost pressure right!

:headscratch: I'm not sure if I am getting what you are saying, but if I am, the engine isn't turbocharged already. We're just putting the supercharger on it.

RHG, there hasn't been any progress since the last pics. We had to pick up the trailer we had on consignment and got busy cleaning up the back yard last weekend.
Hopefully this weekend there will be more pics :crossed: I can't wait to see how it turns out either :hyper:

RS... are you volunteering?

that sounds good to me

Someone posted that diesels didn't work with superchargers without a turbo or something like that.
The two stroke diesels need to have a supercharger to schavenge air for the engine cause the can not do it them selves. The superchargers for this are root style blowers that are gear driven and are a positive displacement blower. They will not cavitate if you put your hand over the intake. You will loose an arm!

The supercharger I am using is a centrifugal style like a turbo charger. It is driving by a belt that runs through a set of gears to step up the speed. It will cavitate if the intake is blocked.

There for boost is boost any way you can get it even if it means a funnel on the hood at a zillion mph.

Just don't want the muffler bearing too tight. That could be dangerous.

OK some pics from last night, and I'll get more today.

Mark is getting the mold packed in the moistened clay/sand mix, then it will have to dry.
Mark's on-call next week and the following weekend is another Jeep Club campout. Probably the last before it gets to hot to enjoy camping out. So it will be three weeks before it gets poured, that should be plenty of time to dry.

Two stroke Diesels... crazy things.

lol Well, see only the two stroke "detroit" or "screamin' jimmy's" have issues when not supercharged. All normal diesels can run fine without.
But of course they run much better with A supercharger or a turbo.

Difference between super charged and turbocharged... spool time. Superchargers tend to spool up quicker. And work at a much lower RPM than Turbos..which make them great for Wheelin.

kneedownnate

Ummmm, I thought the boost on a supercharger was more of a constant, ie you don't have to wait for it to spool.  As long as the engine is running it's providing boost, which increases with rpm.  Herego no lag, no waiting for anything to spool up like a turbo.  I dig your radiator Mark

It's like this. You make the part in foam, pack it in sand, melt the aluminum and pour it in the foam runner in the sand. The molten aluminum vaporizes the foam and takes it's place in the sand. When it cools you knock it loose and you have a rough cast part that needs to be machined.
