Got some work done on my rear fenders last night.  Thursday Tim and I completely cut out the rear fenders flush with the floor. Last night I pulled my rear wheels off and did some work on the frame.  I welded up a couple of the factory holes and cut off the ugly stock bump stop brackets.  I cleaned up the frame and got it ready for some paint.  Then I moved onto the rear fenders.  I rolled a piece of 1/2" square tubing at work to use for the inside edge of the framing.  I got those all fit up then I cut some pieces of 1/4" rod and tacked them in for support.  I got some cardboard cut out as a template for the sheetmetal.  I'm hoping to get bothe fenders completely covered with sheetmetal today.

here are some pics of today's progress.  I got the majority of it done. I still need to cut a few more pieces and fit them in so the fender is completely closed off from the rest of the body.  Then I am going to smear a bunch of that seamsealer all over everything and probly spray it with some kind of undercoating to seal it all up!

nice job on the fenders, some clean work. i did the same thing to my runner, gained so much clearance. no more annoying rubbing of the tires, plus its just a unique look cuz not that many people go that far with the runner fenders. only downside is unlike crunching a stock fender on a rock or tree where it just dents and stays intact.. now with this done if you hit anything major that nice fender you spend all that time on goes to :pokinit: really fast. if i were to go back, i would have put some tubing running along the outside of the fender to protect it. i remember doing all that work to make it nice and then first trip to rubicon it got can opened on a rock. just though id give you a heads up while your still looks perfect.

thanks dude!  the top of the wheelwell is about 2.5 inches taller than stock.  So far I have trimmed about four inches out of the rear fenders from where they used to be

Nice work man! those tubs came out really nice, I might have to do something similar, tires rubbing peeled mine apart over the last few weeks. How thick is the sheetmetal?

thanks bro!  I used 18 gauge sheetmetal.  Its a great size to work with, its flexible but still pretty strong after its welded in.  A 4x8 sheet was only 35 bucks

WOW man you've got some mad fab skills! Keep up the good work! Your yota is one of the baddest all toyota rigs in the country. The whole build is super clean.

By the way, your engine will easily handle 14lbs of boost. If you don't already have one, get your self a boost gauge and turn up that boost controller! The difference between 10lbs and 14lbs of boost is addictive.

thanks alot dude!  I already have a boost gauge and I do have a manual boost controller in one of my boxes of stuff downstairs.  I might have to hook it up one of these days.  I'm just concerned about reliability if I turn up the boost.  I mean it has plenty of power now, and I'm not building this rig so I can race it!  I just dont want to blow a head gasket or somethin stupid like that.

Just gotta make sure you add fuel to match!
yeah thats the other thing too, I need to do some research on the supra forums and learn how much boost my engine can handle on the stock fuel mapping
Nice work on the fenders man. Looks great!
thanks alot guy!

I keep forgetting I'm 4,600 ft above sea level here in Montana. My stock injectors are fine at that boost level. I had to tweak the afm to stay out of the fuel cut off though.

just like the stock side storage just use your old panel as a temp then add a metal box in the rear quarter panels.... keep your toe ropes and spare birfs in or something.....

we have a tubing roller at work, Its an awesome machine!  Can build some pretty custom looking parts with it.  I will probly be using it to make some of the pieces when I build my cage.

Good idea!  I will have to look into doing that.
