update on the pesky water leak.

I said i was going to use the expanding foam, which i did but maybe a little too much  :hammer:.  After taking the vent cover off and looking inside i could tell right away that there was going to be a problem.

the water would have just pooled up behind the foam and eventually would have rusted through anyways.

I cut that hole wider to get in and see just how bad this rest really was, and it was bad.
This is the passenger side

It rusted through the firewall into the engine bay on both sides

This is the driverside rust out.

The solution was to take all the expanding foam back out and and spray only enough to fill the rusted out area (which as it expanded came out the firewall to the engien bay inside the cab, just enough to plug all the holes up) then i put RTV and GOOP glue over all the exposed foam to keep the water out permanently.  Also cut the extra sheet metal that was bent out of the way to allow for more airflow and hopefully dry out any pooled water in those corners again.

I took it to the car wash just a minute ago and not a drop came into the cab  :therethere: I'm happy now :)

i had the same rust problem and i used that foam stuff to- it expands alot! then the moisture just got worse after a season so i drilled some holes that lets the water run out the bottom and that fixed it

Where did you drill? and where did it run out? Do you have carpet?

Sorry again the pic is crappy.  The part number is #84312-20011.  My old contact pin is on the far right  :chew:

The steering column without the horn pin in it

With the pin and c-clip on

Cleaned the copper contact ring around the back part of the steering wheel.

Then slapped it all back together and got my honker back and sounding very Japanese :gap:

Great info to know.
I can't get mine to shut off after doing a lawn dart move on a wheeling trip last year. Haven't got around to looking it yet though.

this is were i drilled 3 holes that are about .25 in in diameter and it drained into the engine compartment  :yesnod: no issues and i just stick the hose there once in awhile to rinse them out. This truck does not have those holes yet as it is the work in progress and has no motor. then after you replace that rusted area use seam sealer then rust proof paint and it should be fine!
