My 98 Toyota Tacoma TRD V6 with a 5" lift
« on: May 10, 2009, 08:40:42 PM »
I just bought me a 98 Tacoma with 151,500 miles, TRD off road package, black with chrome, push bar, genuine rhino lined bed, 2" body lift and 3" spacers up front with 3" blocks rear.  265/75 R16 Tires, street tires but brand new.

"Later, I learned that even though I engage 4WD my hubs are not automatically locking? Something about manual locking hubs I think. What's manual mean? I need to read a manual to lock them? lol  So I found these neat autolocking hubs and installed them. Sometimes they dont stay locked while I am backing up, but that's fine because I dont have a backup camera to see where Im going (like our RV) so I just simply dont ever back up"- BigMike

Im trying to sell it for 1500, but what I really want to do is give it to my brother who lives in montrose.  But I don't think my parents want him to have it, but I think I might just surprise him and my parents and drop it off early in the morning for his 16th birthday.

Yep, lovin it already.  Haven't quite yet had a chance to break it in off road but the time will come (probably before the end of the week).  And as far as the body lift is concerned... I think it looks ok, minus the rear bumper, but its more work than its worth to remove it.

I plan on using it as a daily driver and also being able to take it on moderate wheeling trails.  I hope to take it to moab before the end of the summer and I will be making my first trip to easter jeep safari with a wheeling vehicle with it.  I will also take it on many camping trips throughtout the summer.  For right now any progress will be minimal.  I need to replace the cv shafts cause the boots are torn and one of the rack and pinon boots is also torn.  I also want to replace the timing belt beings I don't know when it was last replaced.

I was refering to removing the body lift...

and I actually plan on just getting a thick black plastic or rubber to cover the gap in the body

I have already taken it wheeling a couple of times.  had to use the locker cause even thought they are 60k mile tires they suck...  stupid tires for streets.  I will have to buy a set for off road use only becuse I need better traction but I also want to use up the tires that came on it.

I went wheeling up the hills between Alpine and Draper, ut.  It was lots of fun.

I also went up squaw peak.  The road was open but there were a couple of places where the road has sluffed off and there was also a place where an avalance went accross the road.  We were playing around and attempted to climb over it.  it was probably 15 feet high and 50 ft wide

I paid the guy $7800 for it, but he only made 100 bucks out of the deal because he owed the bank $7700.  I am very pleased with the price I paid for it.

After a couple of weeks I sold my old truck on ksl.com.  I ended up getting $1300 cash out of it.  I have put a lot of time and money into that truck and it was hard to see it go, but the tacoma was all worth it!

I just installed a new T-case front output shaft seal.  It was leaking.  Pics to come.

Most recent wheeling adventure.

Here is a hill that I couldn't climb up all the way.  My tires didn't do very well in the snow.  Even though the snow pack was perfect for wheeling on.

I was surprised that I went through this deep of snow...  I actually didn't realise the depth until I was on my way out.  I was shocked that my rear dif rubbed the snow.  I also brought alond my wife's pup.

So I have had my hella lights installed on my truck for a while and I have never gotten them working properly with the wiring harness and relay supplied with them and I finally got around to wiring my own switch.  Here is the Switch Installed.

Before I headed to Moab I fabricated my own clutch petal bushing out of aluminum.  So far it has worked well.
