thats pretty sick. people around here are starting to buy and gate off the best places for wheeling. it uscks.
Yeah its a bummer. The governor also just closed off dozens of parks in the state to help save money which really sucks because a lot of cool places are not longer going to be open to the public anymore.
hows that supposed to save money?
Malakoff Diggins on governor's hit listBy Laura Brown, laurab@theunion.com» More from Laura Brown12:01 a.m. PT Jan 12, 2008About 13,000 people who camp, hike and sight-see at Malakoff Diggins State Historic Park each year could soon be met with locked gates under Gov. Arnold Schwarzenegger's plan to close 48 state parks and recreation areas. This week Schwarzenegger announced 10 percent cuts across the board for parks, schools, social services, health care, prisons, the environment and transportation to help close a gaping budget deficit. The budget is subject to legislative approval."It's extremely unfortunate," said Hank Meals, a local historian, archaeologist and author who regularly hikes the trails at Malakoff Diggins. The site is a historical and recreational treasure, and combined with Empire Mine, gives a scope of the area's hydraulic and hardrock mining history, Meals said. The park, tucked away on the San Juan Ridge, features the largest hydraulic mining site in California and the restored mining town of North Bloomfield. Malakoff Diggins joins more well-known parks such as Sutter's Fort in the state capital, San Simeon near Hearst Castle and the state's most northerly affected park, Del Norte Redwoods. (Hearst Castle itself will remain open)."We've been reduced off and on over the last 20 years," said state parks spokeswoman Sheryl Watson. In the early 1990s, 572 positions were cut from the park system, Watson said. After decades of cuts and layoffs, a lean park system has little left to skim, officials said. "We can't absorb any more reduction," said Ron Munson, Sierra Gold Sector superintendent in Grass Valley. "We're at a bare-bone situation."Parks with the lowest revenue and attendance were targeted for closure, Watson said. The state looked at parks by district, "so the pain would be distributed throughout the state fairly," she said. Closing 48 parks would eliminate 136 permanent jobs statewide in order to keep 230 parks or 83 percent of the system open. Malakoff Diggins would lose 4 permanent employees. The closure would mean the loss of 6.5 million visitors and $3.7 million in revenue.Closing parks will require caretaking, with its own set of costs, to protect resources, Watson said.If the remotely located Malakoff Diggins closes, vandalism could become a problem, Meals said. The entrance fees to parks don't cover the costs to run them, Watson said. Some lawmakers suggested raising fees could be an alternative to closing at least some parks. But attempts to charge higher fees in the past to offset maintenance costs have failed, Watson said. "Then we'd have to charge a lot more and (visitors) might go somewhere else," she said. The 10 percent reduction the governor proposed would eliminate half the funding for seasonal workers as well."It's not an easy decision," Watkins said. "We support the governor... and we're doing our fair share during this fiscal crisis."PARKS SLATED FOR CLOSURE• Del Norte Redwoods State Park• Grizzly Creek Redwoods State Park• William B. I love this thing, man. When I think of clean toyotas this is one of the first that comes to mind.
Thanks Tom!! This thing is my pride and joy and I have always tried to keep it clean and wheel it hard at the same time. There is a lot of challenge involved in keeping a straight truck pretty!!!
There is a lot of challenge involved in keeping a straight truck pretty!!!
I guess that's about the only upside to not having such a clean truck
I'll trade ya
x2 I love clean yotas that can still get done. mine is hella clean but still beat on it a little bit. Obviously I dont wanna roll or nothing like that but still wheel it pretty hard. I have only got maybe 3 minor dents and scratches with 2 years of wheelin!
I don't make it out there so much anymore...no functional rig at the moment. But I do know these guys-They are out there quite a bit on the weekends messin around. I tag along now and then. They actually did this to the buggy down there a couple weekends ago. On the big rock at the top of the little rocky slop were everyone plays, right on the main riverbed part. I guess one of them tried to jump off that rock from the uphill/river side, and wasn't goin fast enough...
