Alright well I decided just to sell the Aussie locker, I need the money more than I need the extra effort to swap the welded to an Aussie. So I sold it to Matt (that HO freaker  :gap:)

He should definitely get some good use out of it  :yesnod:

Well when I figure out exactly what group I am going with I will let you know. I am probably going to roll with Chris (lilbuddy) and them but it all depends on what happens with the girlfriend's work schedule (damn wimminz).

Picked up a "new" passenger side steering knuckle today from Luke over at 4x4 Labs. I am just going to drill and rethread my old knuckle and save it as a spare. So now I can rebuild my passenger side and wrap up everything else for the round up.

Might toss a coat of paint on it if I can find some in the garage heh.

Also I had told a few people about one of 4x4 Labs' latest project, a Mercedes Benz OM617 turbo-diesel engine swap. I forgot my camera again but he has a bunch of pictures on their website so if anyone was interested in checking that out here is the link:

http://4x4labs.com/dieselconversions.shtml

Basically using an Advanced Adapaters Chevy to Toyota bell housing he is able to mate the OM617 Turbo diesel to his stock LC tranny and tcase. He is working on his own adapter to mate the Turbo Diesel directly to a W56 or W59 transmission and eventually other Toyota and Chevy trannys. Right now it is still pretty experimental but the FJ40 pictured on his web page is what he is tentatively planning to take to MCR7, so anyone who wants to learn more or check it out in person can find Luke at the Round up and see it for yourself. I can't wait to see it driving, I have only seen it sitting at this point :gap:

Alright well I didn't feel like taking on the passenger side rebuild tonight so I did some other stuff. Here is some super hardcore dif breather tech for anyone who cares  :gap:

Heres all the stuff I have used for years to do dif breathers. Usually run em for 2-3 years before I replace the hose, typically replace the filter sooner. I was running a stock axle breather fitting at the end of the hose in the rear (mini K&N in the front) for the last few years, worked fine but I decided to run it up into the bed of the 4runner and switch it to the K&N style.

You should be able to find all these parts at your local Napa. The mini filters have really gone up in price ($7.99 now a piece  :shake:) so those are really the most expensive part about this. You don't have to use them though, I just like them because they hold up well and look nifty. A lot of people use fuel filters or just leave the end open. All up to you. I ended up cleaning and reusing my front filter since it has only seen one winter. These things last forever really.

Anyway, here is all the stuff you need (minus the filters about $5 worth of stuff)

I decided to run it through the passenger's side fender. That way I could zip tie the breather hose to the brake line, through the center of the stock bump stop and run it behind the rubber flap that covers the gap between the frame and the body on the inner fender well.

Drilled a hole (duh)

I grabbed a couple different gromits but this one worked the best because it had a larger lip on one side that with a little RTV sealed perfectly.

Hooked it to the roll bar...

Reattached the carpet

And lastly this is where I locate my front breather if anyone is looking for ideas

If this seems daunting to you, best to leave it to a trained mechanic to perform this extreme mod to your Toyota.

You forgot to mention to run the hose up and loop back down towards the filter so in a roll the oil dosent drain out the filter.  :gap:

gravity will still force it out.. unless in the event it does roll over.. the filter is equal or higher up in relation to the axle.

Might not have time to swap rear axles. As my luck should have it this week I have my first two exams, one in Biology and one in Accounting so I have a lot of studying to do. Either way the major things are done and if push comes to shove I will throw a bead down over the crack and make this my rear axle's last journey.

Oh yeah well I will definitely throw a bead on it, I was just meaning that instead of swapping axles I would weld over the crack to get me by for MCR.

Yea if you keep it short it will still come out. I looped a good foot or two of extra hose just before the filter. I havent been completely upside down but it has kept the fluid in place while on my side. Heck if I were to get completly upsidedown I'd prolly have bigger issues than diff fluid anyhow.

Got back from the Roundup a few hours ago. I had a great time. Met more board members than I can remember. No breakage but I did manage to get my first body damage

My girlfriend Starr, my buddy Wade and I didnt end up leaving GV until about 8:00 AM Friday. We had a few stops to make on the way and ended up not getting to the trail until about 2PM on Friday. Wheeled to the Little Sluice and camped there. I got pretty drunk and passed out at like 11 after watching people bang the Sluice for a while. Then at like 3AM Chris, AJ,  Cole, Travis, Will and Matt showed up and woke my ass up. Didn't get much sleep after that  :gap:

Anyway Saturday we took our time and cruised with those guys to Buck, took a swim then kept on to the Springs. Made it to the springs at about 4. Left this morning and made it back to GV at about 2.

We didnt have much breakage in our group. Travis managed to destroy two of his shocks and lost the bolt to another, so by the end of the run he only had one shock still attached. He also crunched his driver door pretty good. AJ sheered all the bolts on his front driveline at the tcase. I screwed up my rear ujoint in my rear driveshaft and my passenger chevys were causing me some problems. Best I figure my center pin in the passenger side chevy came loose because my add a leaf kept walking. It ended up catching my skid plate and puncturing a tiny hole in my fuel tank. Luckily we had some soap handy and we patched it up. Otherwise our group made it through pretty good.

Anyway on to the pics. First some scenic shots:

Decent to Buck:

Travis in the Sluice box:

This 4runner belongs to a really cool guy named Paul who we met towards the start of the trail. Started out as a 2WD. I like seeing people SASing newer 4runners and tacos and keeping it all yota  :yesnod:

The 4runner as we took a little break to do some RC crawling:
