Also got my half doors done, thought I would share my 1 day, rushed, first attempt at making some half doors. Going to modify them more in the future by cutting the interior trim to fit and making some cupholders. For now though they work great.

Started with these:

Hacked off the top frame of the door and the wing window:

Measured out where I wanted to cut. Made my horizontal cut exactly 8" down from the top. I decided to run straight under the door lock so I could just use the internal mechanism to open the doors:

Girlfriend took this of me hacking away when I started these Wednesday night:

Bought a 10 foot piece of 2x4 to run in the middle, measured it out and cut it to fit. the trickiest part was the upward slope, took a few trial and errors to get it to fit right. I just used some self tapping screws, drilled holes in the metal first and then used the drill to tighten em down.

Both doors cut and filled in:

The inside was a little tricky because of the wavy inner side. A few moments with a BFH helped that out for the most part.

Painted em up.:

Installed:

Overall I am happy with how they turned out. Like I said, I will eventually put some quality time into these, I just needed some half doors for fordyce and for the $50 I invested in the project as a whole I can't complain.

HAHA I ahd a first 30 min. attempt at making half doors. I used expanding foam and cardboard! I caved them both in and now they are now in the scrap metal pile.

"Later, I learned that even though I engage 4WD my hubs are not automatically locking? Something about manual locking hubs I think. What's manual mean? I need to read a manual to lock them? lol  So I found these neat autolocking hubs and installed them. Sometimes they dont stay locked while I am backing up, but that's fine because I dont have a backup camera to see where Im going (like our RV) so I just simply dont ever back up"- BigMike

Casualties amongst the crew were few but devastating....

Kyle managed to get about 2 hours on the trail before he sheared all 6 lug nut studs on the passenger side of his Dana 44

Luckily with the aid of some Jeepers and their portable welder, Kyle managed to weld his wheel to his rotor which proved to be just enough to get it back to the trailer about 4 miles away.

Colin rolled his rig onto it's lid:

About an hours worth of body work and his truck was as good as new  :gap:

Overall it was an awesome trip. I love it there. Can't wait to get back up to Fordyce. I didn't suffer much damage besides mandatory stuff, difs, sliders, bumpers, etc. Nothing major though. The girlfriend and I would have stayed another night if we werent out of beer and low on food. With the fire season blowing into full effect, I doubt the trail will be open much longer. A 15 minute lightening storm ignited about 8 fires in the area and by the time we left, Bowman Lake was being evacuated, several other hills were burning and the little town of Washington was close to being fully evacuated. I am hoping these fires die down as the closest was only about 10 miles from my house, in dense river canyons that are not accessible by fire trucks and barely accessible by CDF aircraft. I got film footage but no pictures of the fire. Hoping the wind stays low and the fires burn themselves out. According to the Forestry officer I spoke with this evening, there are close to 500 fires raging in California at the moment, most of them due to this lightening storm. The ones around Bowman/Fordyce lakes and off of highway 20 are very low priority at this point because of lack of population in the area. I just hope they don't let them get out of control. Anyway, awesome trip, for sure.

To get to either turn off from 80 its about a 40 minute drive from my house, from 80 to Fordyce (at least from Cisco Grove, havn't gone in Eagle Lakes yet) its probably another 40 minutes. Probably about an hour and a half total to get to the trailhead itself. I wish I had been coming here sooner I just never felt my rig was ready. I guess I am glad I waited because I walked pretty much everything I wanted so it was worth the wait. The only thing that ever hung me up was my dif clearance. If I had to bang dif too much I would just go another way.

Just being a dumb ass the night before, he was messing around near camp and tried to climb a close to vertical rock. He got all the way to the top then his back tires hit a little outcrop and it sent his nose skyward and slow mo style went over backwards right onto his cab. Best part is: its his daily driver
