DTB, just weld some angle iron over the crossmember.  then you have a square mount to have the bolt heads rest against.
I'm liking that idea..thanks BD...we'll see.. :gap:

Thats what I'm going to do when I get around to it.  I drilled holes through it for bolts, and they just stretched the holes out.  little extra support, and a flush mounting surface for the bolt sems like it would help.

Got a little work done yesterday......not enough hours in the day ya know?

Rear perches welded in

Steering box plate burned in. you can see where I had to cut out part of the rad. mount and a small section out of the body mount to clear the box

Measuring toe-in

ya i did rotate it up a little. I figured out what im gonna do with the rear driveshaft for now. Im gonna make some spacers for the carrier bearing to lower it about an inch and I'm gonna shorten the stock rear shaft. After I dual case it I will run a one piece shaft

Got a little work done today...sorry no pics...

Got the ram tabs welded on the axle and tie rod, cut out the rear crossmember, finished welding in rear (had to drop the gas tank to weld the inside of the passenger spring hangar in the rear. I still havent decided what to do for shock mounts in the rear. I have a couple extra shock hoops sitting around so I was thinking I could cut the lower part of them off and weld to the inside of the frame on each side for vertical shocks. Then weld a bar connecting the tops of the shock hoops and doubling as a crossmember. Sound like a good idea? I wish I knew how to draw stuff on the computer...anyone know a website online where I can draw on pics? I dont have a paint program on my work computer here.....

haha thats what my buddy christian said too...he said HE wants them...

I like the idea of vertical shocks since I can build the flatbed around the mounts if needed. Here is a pic from Kaptains build up on pirate....pretty simple idea but I dont think there is enough support on the top of those mounts! A bar to tie them in or gusseting would be appropriate IMO . what do you guys think?

yea  they need to be  hooked together,   but  i  not sure  you'll get  the flex  you want  like that,  not without having a REALLY long travel shock

but  on my truck that round  crossmember  is  directly over the axle  so  my shocks  are mounted there from the factory,  but with the 2 inch body lift i could make a bracket  to raise  them another 6 inches  to  just under the bed floor

I don't know if I would go anywhere near the junkyard with that trailer. It might accidentally get picked up by the magnet and crushed

I figured out why this build is taking so long its because i keep stopping to take pictures!  Its slower than 6.72's build :haha:

Ok so I think I'm pretty much done...just waiting on a shortened driveshaft to get out of the garage and flex it so I can mount the shocks.....

cut out the old crossmember in the rear. U can see the problem here

cut off the top of the tube on the bracket to just weld up to the new tube

Sleeved with 1 and 5/8th DOM

clamped tank and bracket up

voila! easy enough right? I will use this now as a good base to build the rear shock hoops (?) / mounts

welding ram tab on tie rod

dinner break
