needless to say i am very excited about this...hopefully i can find some time this week to work on this POS

be sure when you use that tap that you put grease on it, so the metal filings stay on the tap and clean and regrease often. rinse and repeat, rinse and repeat.   :yupyup:

grease instead of cutting oil? that would work ok? i was gonna use a magnetic probe too

the grease catches the metal in the flutes of the tap and holds them there. it will build up fast so that is why you have to clean it often

ordered this oil cooler from summit for the hydro set up.  I looked at some local auto parts stores and wasnt really impressed with the quality they carried. it looks like it should fit nicely behind the grill because its only 3/4 inch thick and has 3/8 inch barb fittings (which are the same as stock lines) I do believe I can use all the stock lines to connect as well...no additional plumbing  but we'll see.

I got your stuff sent out today. Getting it all to the post office was great motivation for working on my own junk.

Slow week this week....... Almost got the rear hung. Not sure about axle position. Hangars are just tacked in this photo. I moved the spring hangar forward 8 inches (shortening the wheelbase) Does this look like it will work? I was a little confused about where to mount these things. I wouldnt mind having a wheelbase that is a couple inches shorter in the rear (especially since the front axle is moved forward 2 inches) Any input? Any problems with doing this? :help:



Got all the brakes done. Proportioning valve installed. I like how this simplifies the brake system. Now there is one line for the front that goes into a "t" for right and left and there is one line going to the rear. LPSV had an input line from MC and a return line (which was eliminated)

So how much wheel base are you wanting. I think anything over 110 is too much but I like the tight technical stuff. With a longer wheel base you may not feel as tippy coming up but then when you crest the top its time to winch couse your belly will be hung for shure.  :thpst:

thanks.....im thinking about removing my AC too...I cant decide. it has a bad compressor. this is a trail rig only.....any opinions on this? positives or negatives? thanks...oh BTW gittinit i got that tap and reservoir thanks....i paypalled u 5 bucks for the shipping

On my bro in laws rig we ended up with a 112" wheelbase after moving the rear axle right up to the cab. We used some rears up front packs to move the front foward about 3" and linked the rear. While building the rear he was worried the tires would contact the cab becouse it was close. I'm pretty shure the stock 3rd gen extended cab wheelbase is 12+ inches.

it seems that later extra cabs (89+) actually had 122 inch wheelbase.  WB on earlier model 84-88 was 112 stock. im thinking im just gonna shorten it and call it good......nobody else has any opinions?  :help: :confused:  :beerwhack:

I hate to admit it DTBizzle...but its lookin pretty good!

I just mocked the rear axle. the rear shackle hangar needs to be moved forward just a tad to correct the shackle angle. right now it is about 13 degrees (no added weight on bed). I'm guessing it should be about 20-30 degrees (with 200 to 300 pounds added on the back of frame to simulate the springs settling) I am sooooo happy with the ride height with no body lift   :biggthumpup:





removed AC and prepping grill for hydro cooler. hydro assist ram and hoses came today :woohoo: I will start tapping the box this weekend

I would move it forward 2 inches. Looking good.
