i like having a drill press around it's great for precision drilling. you don't have to have one to do a steering box, but it sure makes it easier

We all know the merits of a drill press, but after doing 2 boxes myself, I don't see how it would be easier to use a drill press for this. It doesn't take more than an hour to do anyway.

Move P.S. box and bleed
Final weld on rear spring hangars and perches
Bleed brakes
Mount CO2 setup
Weld 2 P.S. reservoirs together

Remove AC
double check torque on all critical bolts
mount driveshafts

I got rid of my brake backing plate....where should I mount my brake hard line? I was thinking about making a tab and mounting it on one of the caliper bolts (not the ones holding it on the knuckle ear) Any ideas for this?

if anyone has a star on pirate and can search for some pics for me that would be sweet..thanks..

I don't have mine mounted at all! I have never broke a front brake line either. I like being able to set the caliper out of the way when working on the axle so if you decide to mount it go to the caliper in a manner that the caliper can be set aside.
If ya come up with something simple I may have to copy you idea.

there are some shackle spacers that were included with my rear kit that i cant for the life of me figure out where they go. As far as I can tell I dont need them. What are they for? Are they for earlier model trucks? They are not in the picture on the website (for rear kit)

thanks lowrider answered my question..the spacers are for if you re-use the stock shackle hangars (which are wider on 3rd gen). If new shackle hangars are used (like the ones supplied in the kit) the spacers are not needed

Pitman-to-frame clearance

Why dosen't the tre fit into the pitman arm? There is a possibility of tierod to pitman arm contact upon full compression of the driver front tire, espescially after the springs get broke in, or if the springs go negative. You can eliminate any possibility of contact by lifting the box and tilting it counter clockwise some. It does look really good though and the tierod and draglink look to be parallel.

One more question ...Are your u bolts tight on the driver side? They appear to be short or not fully tightened.

There is quite a bit of distance (maybe 4 inches) between the pitman and tierod. I can't see them ever hitting. Plus the axle will move back anyways right? I used a piece of string to simulate where the spring would be if it went completely flat (negative will be impossible due to bumpstops) to make sure the sector shaft and pitman were up high enough.
