My soft top from Killer Toy Tops is arriving on Saturday as well as my ARP studs from FROR. Going to spend that day getting those installed and then I'm off to Walker Valley for a 2 year anniversary of the first trip out with the runner.

What power steering pump did you go with? Im doing a 3rz swap now and would like to get rid of the factory pump.

I was going to but at the last minute decided not to.

I have never run my top off road in WA so have not had to contend with trees much with it.  Just one more thing to watch for.

That'll give you more time to get the ARP stuff (that I'm very excited about) and the soft top installed.  When do you anticipate the stuff being delivered on Saturday?

Well the ARP studs are coming in the mail so early afternoon on those. No telling on the soft top.

Nevermind the ARP studs were here today when I checked the mail. I'm gonna be able to get them done first thing in the morning.

or get this one. Its the exact same pump as the PSC. A Saginaw TC style pump is what the PSC and Trail Gear both use. Notice they look exactly the same. I bought mine from auto zone for $78 modified it and its been working awesome. Just my thoughts. Runners looking good!

48. Replace steering knuckle studs with ARP studs


Well I spent the day working on the truck. I started by installing my new ARP studs in my knuckles. Went easy enough, utilizing the two nut method to remove stock studs and install new ones.









After I got that done I moved on to replacing my 10" Bilsteins in the rear with 12"s. Should get me where I want to be with my droop in the rear.



I also went and got some abrasion guard or whatever the hell you call this stuff, and put it around all my new hydraulic lines.



Also my killer toy top showed up



So after all this I go to pull my truck out of the garage to pull my hard top off and put my new soft top on. My steering is fighting me when attempting to turn right. I don't understand what I could have done. I think it is just a coincidence that it happened when it did and I'm thinking it is an air bubble in my ram or something to do with the hydro assist. Its fighting me when the truck isn't moving. I took it for a drive and it did fine on the road turning right. I was exhausted and decided to call it a night. I'm going to try and figure it out in the morning. I took the cap off of the reservoir and I'm hoping it will bleed some more tonight.  I'm open to suggestions on what I could have done to cause this while upgrading my studs.

Me too.  I am curious to see what, if anything, is different from mine.  It is supposed to be updated, but the pictures on the website are the same ones from when I got mine.

So after sleeping on it I thought of one possibility. I found a loose castle nut on one of my tie rod ends. I tightened it down. I'm wondering if it is possible to over tighten the TRE to the point that it would cause my difficulty turning right?

no, I don't think that's possible, the TRE is tapered, unless the tapered diameter was to small or the hole on steering arm was wallowed out

No it had the cotter pin still. It was loose down to the cotter pin.

So I tried troubleshooting some more today. I took the ram off and checked its function. It is working properly. I removed the TRE that I suspected I had overtightened, and re-torqued it to spec. That didn't solve it either. I am completely lost on this one.

Does it turn fine on jack stands or just with weight on the ground?  Did it turn ok with the ram removed?

It turned the same with the ram removed.

Sounds like it is unrelated to the ram then.

Any chance the steering stabilizer developed a hitch?

Steering stabilizer was removed when I did the hydro.

Is it continuous restistance or a bump that you can get past?

did you just remove the ram from steering? or did you pull it and plug lines? if your testing with the truck on? you have a bad seal in your ram.. allowing fluid to work against it self.. if you the truck is off i would remover the TRE at the pitman arm and see if you have that same issue did you over tighten or shim it wrong with the new studs

I'm having a hard time understanding a lot of that mega. I unbolted the ram from the tie rod and tested it with it still bolted to the bracket on the axle. I used the same shims as were beneath the arms before. I tightened to 71 foot pounds as is called out.

Took apart the right side again. Ensured that I wasn't crazy and that the shims were there and that there wasn't anything wrong with the trunion. I then tested the movement of the knuckle when not attached to the steering. It moved very easily as it should. I then buttoned everything back up and the problem seems to be gone.
