Rokyoat's 88 4 Runner
« on: Sep 27, 2011, 09:48:03 PM »
So I'm starting a new thread with a new rig.  I decided to sell my 05 DC tacoma, i have really been wanting to get another rig since I got rid of my last tacoma. The same I sold my truck I found this rig on CL. I have been wanting a 1st gen 4 runner for awhile, I think other than 2 gen 4runner it is the only toyota I havent owned.
I needed something with a backseat for my son and our new baby when  she is old enough to ride along. :)

Our new daughter's name is Taylor and she has already got the nickname "taylor-made" from my cousin. so what the hell...

Here is the rig it is a great start but there is alot of stuff I want to do to it.
1988 4 runner
-22re from a 94
-new clutch, alternator, battery
35" cooper mud terrains
-85 front axle, 5.29s, spartan locker, high steer, newly rebuilt, 4" all-pro springs
-88 rear with 5.29s welded 63" springs
-bilstien shocks
-dual t-cases with 4.7s in the rear, twin sticks, triple drilled flanges all around
-new drivelines
-custom bumpers front rear and sliders. 8000 lbs winch.
Also has a roll cage but its pretty cheesy I think its getting takin out or atleast re-done
came with half doors and a half hard top
everything that was swaped under has 200 miles on it including the tires

yeah they were free...

this truck is pretty clean, it was flopped on the pass. side but is no major damage. just a few dents on the fender.
the interior is a little rough, there is a hole in the headliner, the front seats in it dont tilt and slide forward like the stock seat does. the carpet is gone.

my plans are to get rid of the welded rear, I havent decided on an ARB or ZIP locker. Has Anybody ran a ZIP locker??
I am going to keep the toy axles they need some diff guards, trusses, knuckles gussets in front. Longfields, Hydro assist, OBA on and on....

I want to run 37's it is way over geared now with 5.29s and 35s

Congrats on the two new additions.

I think it's a harbor freight special. Basically a milemarker but maybe slower... I don't know I haven't even tried it yet.

I got a little bit of work done this week, nothing major, replaced both door locks and got new keys. Also bought a gauge cluster off pirate, the stock dash just has the speedo and temp gauges.

I haven't installed it yet, I think I'm going to take the roll cage out first. I haven't decided yet if I want to keep it and add to it and redo the floor plates and actually attach it to the frame or do an exo thru the front fenders. Suggestions/opinions??  :dunno:

One thing I want to do soon is rework the front leafs with some rear springs and lower the rear. I'd like to drop it about 2". Monday when I get off I'm going by Davez off road and getting all the stuff to truss the front axle, and I'm going to order the rear truss from sky.

Make sure you change the oil sending unit or you will fry the oil pressure gauge. Shalom

it does just plug in, but your current setup is for an oil light not a gauge.  The sending unit for a light is just on or off so the oil pressure gauge wont like the full voltage when you fire it up.

I started gathering parts today. I picked up a couple diff guards, rear spring perches, knuckle gussets, front axle truss, a set of rear leafs and mounting plates for moving the steering Box forward. I'm not sure if I'm going to tear it apart this week. I need to get it smogged first.

I got it smogged today. they had to adjust the timing and the air/fuel mixture alittle to get it to pass. It runs like :pokinit: now so I will have to re-adjust it back.  :wink2:

I ripped on the original plastic panels in the rear. they looked like crap and had 6x9 speaker holes in them. I got one of the new panels finished today. The Previous owner put a cigerette lighter in the back, I moved it further back and put a new, brighter light in the back.

I am not sure yet if Im going to make both sides have access for storage or just the pass side. I am going to make a tool box under the rear floor down where the stock spare went

I found some seats out of a early 2000's civic today. They are pretty nice, they tilt and slide forward like the stock seats did. Tomorrow I should be able to get the other rear panel done and hopefully get the seats put in.

I got the passenger seat bolted in today. It fits good. the front bolts lined up and I just drilled and bolted the rears. I dont think it slides as far forward as a stock seat would but it will work...
