the last 2 days, Pat (jew Ballin) and I worked on the his rig. We re-worked the tube in the rear. when he got the guy had a spare tire mount in the rear and the wasn't any room for camping gear. We cut pretty much everything out of the middle and put new stuff in and cobbed some sheet metal to keep some of the mess out of the "bed"

here are some pics.

We took the top off runner tonight, I'm hoping I get some time this weekend to work on it.  Atleast get the cage out and get the drivers seat in.  Then it's time to tear it down, gusset the front and lower it.
Partial exo to come...

I got the drivers seat in. It sits about an inch lower than the ones that were in it when I got it. I can still lower it another inch or so if I want to, for now Im going to leave them.

Since the seats sit lower and I moved them inward to the stock location, I am really undecided on the cage. Either I keep the cage that is it and redo the mounting plates and actually mount it to the frame and add more to it. or build an partial exo cage around the cab and over the back seat. :help:

the seats I took out are for sale. check for sale section $50 obo

my 7 yr old son wanted to work on the truck this weekend, so we tore the front axle apart. Everything looked good, except 6 of the 8 knuckle studs were loose. :o
othere than that it is the cleanest housing ive ever taken apart.

Not much to update, I built the RUF springs today. I used the top 2 springs from the toy rears and springs 2 though 5 from the all-pro pack. They look about the same height, on the ground but the new pack is about 3 inches longer. Which should push shackle back and make the angle better, it was almost vertical before.

I ordered new bushings for Davez today, hopefully they will be here tomorrow.
Still have to finish welding the knuckle gussets and the truss on.
My welder was welding like crap, turns out the hose for the gas, in the hose for the gun is torn. I ordered a new hose and gun yesterday.

I got the spring bushings I ordered yesterday.  I bought a ram and lines for hydro assist. I wasn't planning on doing hydro assist right now but I figured I might as well while the front end is getting done and I couldn't pass up the deal.  :yesnod:

I ran into alittle problem today when I hung the springs. The rears that I have are 51" long which is 4" longer than the all-pros I had. The shackle angle is too flat now. I ended up cutting the front hanger off and Im going to move it forward as far as I can, I should be able to move it about 1.5" up.  If that doesn't take care of the problem I will cut the cab mount to clear the shackle. Pretty much cant do anything else on it until my gun comes for my welder, should be in tomorrow. I hope...

Actually the spring pin were in the place on both packs. The main reason I am redoing the springs is to lower it. But now I'm just causing myself more work...

Whatever

I got the new gun for my welder today. I don't remember the last time it worked this good. I got the housing all finished and the front hanger welded back on. I will post pics later...

here is the finished front hanger. i am still going to gusset it to the bumper in a couple spots. It is moved forward 1.5" from where it was when i got it. the shackle angle is still too steep.  I decided if im going to play with diferent shackle lengths or find some 48" rear springs...

yeah with no weight on the springs the shackles should pulled hard forward.
that would ahve taken atleast 2" more forward

Yeah it's moved as far as it can be without doing alot more work. Im not sure if it was moved forward any before. It's a homemade hanger.

Slight change of plans on my rims. I got email from Summit today saying the rims are on backorder and will ship in about 45 days. I cancelled my order and ordered a set from Davez. Shoulld take about a week, these will be 3.5 backspacing.

I got the new packs put back together, springs are hung and housing is bolted under it. the springs are pretty flat and the shackle is better than it was when I started.

Tomorrow im going to work moving the steering box forward and I might have to cut the shock hoops off and move those up also.  Bumpstops and hydro assist still left to finsih the front.
I think I decided on these beadlocks also.
