Looks OK to me, the welds are good with equal penatration, the design for the shocks is triangulated, the mounts are boxed for strength, the bolts are grade 8, why is nothing good enough for you people ??? Hey I know lets go wheelin' and see what happens on April 22, We will post the pictures so ya'll can see what happened.....!!!!!

sorry for lookin out.. i know a thing or 2 about ripping shock mounts off frames.   all the good welds and triangulation doesnt mean SQUAT if it is not braced properly.

here you can see part of the outline on a patch piece that is on my frame.. thats a good 10" long tear.. it took out part of the top and the bottom of the frame with it aswell.  not because the welds were bad but because  it was not braced properly !

a little late w/ a comment...but on page 18 when oldyellercj said that welding on unprepped material is challenging and wat ever he meant about the wire bouncin before u get a puddle.......not to sound cocky or like a frickin know it all but im goin to school for a engineering dgree in welding and weld prep is prolly the most important thing next to a good smooth, well penetrating weld......especially makin a driveline mount..that takes allll the torque from the motor n the vehicle's weight fightint it.....that about the LAST place i would richard around with makin shirty welds.......imagine that comin loose on the highway at 70mph and the driveshaft binding n locking up...........

Your right :clap2:  your are too late with the comment  the further you get in your class :smack:  you will learn that if the wire feed speed is turned up too much the wire will jump off the surface you trying to weld to :therethere: so when you git done with your D gree  let me know how it goes in the real world. ' Cause I've been to a different school IT'S CALLED " LIFE " JUNIOR and I dont recal making a drive line mount ???  and while your gettin' that there D gree how about Gettin' some SPELLING LESSONS there mister I'm going to school for whatever, I have been welding a while and try my best to not make SHIRTY welds If there not good they get ground and replaced with the right welds this is the life of another person in my hands and I would not richard around with the life of my NEPHEW.

I work as a structural engineer at a naval shipyard and I have co-workers that are engineering technicians (formerly production workers) and I work directly with the production workers (about 50% are welders).  I can tell you that practical hands-on knowledge can be far more valuable than an education.  I didn't learn many specific things in college that I use directly with my job.  I also work with several very knowledgeable weld engineers.  The biggest reason that we need weld engineers is to qualify new weld procedures and to help us how to figure out how to do difficult jobs while staying within the rules.  I know several people that do amazing welding outside of work, but the rules are so detailed that they are crippled while at work.

Obviously as an engineer I have great respect for education, but I also know 1st hand how much knowledge can be gained from hands-on experience.  It is one thing to prepare and weld something in a controlled environment, but it is a whole different animal when the welder is literally laying in a hole upside down welding with a mirror.  Sitting at my desk being proud of my education doesn't help in those situations.  As a result of being willing to "get dirty" I now know that I can fit through a 12-3/4" hole!
