Isn't that your new gas tank?

If so then its right above the rear cv/ujoint. If the joint blows then the driveline could wack through the body and smack the tank, and with some sparks you could roast a couple marshmellows :nerv:

:dunno: if thats actually a real concern, but some sort of driveline safety cage might be a good

Have you been taking pain killers again? The fuel tank is inside the body and the floor is 16 gauge. If the drive shaft was to rupture the fuel tank it wouldn't do much except make an oily mess. I have never seen diesel blow up into flames like gasoline. :thpst:

I was thinking about welding in a 11 gauge stainless gaurd to help protect it further. Have you ever tryied to cut 11 gauge stainless steel?

You talk about transferring fuel over the hump in the tank, how are you going to do that?  Two pumps? It seems that once the fuel gets down to the hump it will only get fuel from the side the pickup is on.

Nice project BTW.

I cut out the last 6" of the tunnel so the floor will be flat back there and I am reshaping the bottom of the tank so it is the same. This will allow for fuel to drain equally. I am also putting a drop in the bottom of the tank that goes through the floor where I will pickup the fuel. This will make sure the pump and engine have a source of fuel when it is at a severe angel.

Do you think you will ever get that low with a diesel?

I don't plan to run it low, but I am more worried about air getting into the lines and causing it to run bad or stall at a time when I need it most.

I also plan to build a purge tank like they use on airplanes to allow for good fuel flow at any angel including upside down.

Thanks, the first picture of the tank doesn't show a flat all the way across, that had me scratching my head.  Now it all makes sense.

How do you shorten your shafts? I knew someone a long time ago who made a special input shaft for a gearbox out of two shafts grafted together, one was tapered on the outside, with a straight end that was threadedand the other was bored withe same taper, drilled and threaded. the two were screwed together a v was turned where the two met and they were then welded together. This was a rover / Buick v8 mated to a jaguar gearbox! I am interested in your machine shop methods, modifications and alignment as I am building up a home machine shop/ foundry so any techniques, methods or usefull tricks are really interesting to me.
