WOW! That is really cool Mr. W! Not only did you cast your own blower nosecone, but you modded a weber grill, a vacuum, and made a special casting stinger to hook the rod onto. I thought I was the only one who had to fab stuff so I could fab other stuff.

Yeah, I was fixin' to damage control and grab a bag of sand and toss it on the aluminum if things went terribly awry! I know Mark was a bit tense too.
We were worried about that wire handle coming loose or breaking off the kettle, but could not have gone smoother.
We put nosey behind the wall next to the camera, he had flipflops on (which you might have seen in an earlier casting project)
And then we used so little aluminum we were worried it didn't get a full pour. But it didn't sink either.

That is some nice back yard casting tech there. I have done it a few times for knife handles and such but never something that big. I feel all inspired to go melt down the screen door

It was packed with sand probly just needs cleaned polished and matched.

ok i see it better now, I just didn't study the first sand packed pictures close enough. i forgot you guys used foam. that makes it a lot easier instead of having a 2 part casting.

Hey just a thought for those who saw this and thought it would be a good Idea for making some parts for your rigs.

DO NOT USE POLYURETHANE FOAM!!!! It emits Cyanide gas when melted. my dad found his best friend laying unconscience on the floor of his hanger after he decided to use a hot wire on his airplane. He was using polyurethane foam.

If you do this, use high density Polystyrene its gasses are not as noxious as Cyanide. but you should be careful not to breath it too.

Poly is usually blue or yellow sometimes pink. Styro foam is the right stuff high desnity is easier to work. the guy doing the cutting has done it before you could tell so I assume he would have known.

I just wanted to be sure a guy who saw this and thunk it would be cool to cast the widget he was dreaming up knew too.

Yes, good advice, Wayne. I wouldn't have known that either.
You can get a block of styrofoam in any size at one of these architectural foam places. They one I went to was called Mr. Foamy.
For a smaller size block you can usually find something at a craft store.
