Quite the difference!  :pirate:

After:

It's starting to come together!  :woohoo:  I think I'll go and assembly lube the main bearings and put the crank shaft in now.   and the LC Cam.

I need to call LC today.  I might be having issues with their springs.

Quote from: LC TechnotesThe installed height of the LC Street Performer Valve Springs is 1.620 - 1.630. Spring seat pressure should be 70 psi at 1.625". Spring coil bind is at .950". Install using the appropriate spring shim.
And
Quote from: LC Technotes98 percent of all cam failure is excessive valve spring pressure.

The Machinist informed me that I was at 90psi.  I think that might be too much, :dunno:   I need to be sure.

Ugh, so many questions.  :thud:   Between LC and the machine shop and me just learning about this stuff.  :haha:

I'm sure getting a crash course in; Coil Bind, Install hight, and shims.   I didn't even know there were shims.   :hammerhead:

Edit:  this has been helpfull

First;  I am very pleased with LC Engineering's customer support.  They have been very good about helping me with this.

Second;  I got to the bottom of this yesterday.  It is all good.  :woohoo:  3 calls to LC, a call to the machine shop.

My Installed hight is 1.585" at 90psi.  2 Techs at LC told me this is more than acceptable.  Plus the pro springs go well over 110 psi, so this will just seat better without causing premature cam failure.

Install hight - Coil bind hight = "my cam isn't that tall"

when I set my lash they simply said to make sure that the springs are not in full coil bind.

Mmmm Fresh assembly lube!

OK, just to be on the safe side I want to make sure I put the piston and rod in right.  These are brand new so they aren't numbered.

On page EM62 of the FSM it says: "Make sure the notch and mark are facing forward"

are these what it is talking about?  :dunno:

And now that I look at the top of my piston (with the doughnut) I am concerned about the valve clearance.  I will still check it with the clay, but the others I have seen like Duffils have the little cut outs.   Any thoughts on this?
I like to Drive!

Duffil

mine do NOT have cutouts.  I run those early model pistons. Just make sure you have the early model head as well (open combustion chamber).

at the gettin place. (hobby shop, wally world, etc.)

I forgot to mention that: cut it in half along the indention, remove one side, and measure the remaining side with you calipers.  LC recommends at least .100".

Whew.  Sweet.   I thought that earlier pic was your actual piston.  thank you.

what about the marks?

Where to I find out about open chamber?  (i'm sure it's the early head, just good to be sure)

:whew:  I am relieved!    I thought it was yours and i was looking at how close it was. And I was like aw crap.    :gap:

no, bit U was looking at mine the otehr day when diagnosing my noiose, and adjusting my valves and with 10* of cam advance it gets kinda close. I am also not happy with the design of the cam ger but that is another story since you are going stock.

Wermz84

I helped my buddy install one of their adj cam gears a year or two ago.  It seemed like an awful lot of work to me.  Plus I had to cut and grind an Allen and regular wrench to fit it so the adjustments could be made while it was on.  other wise it would be pull it off every time you wanted to make an adj.

I thought about it for this one but I already have a lot on my plate with my first build.  that would be just one more variable i do not need right now.  plus its just a 4x4 not a race truck.

Did you like the performance it gave you though?

Duffil

the only thing I really notice is a smoother idle and maybe a tiny bit of low end...which makes sense given the desktop dyno readouts.  but yeah it works...I just don't like where they milled it out because you can't set it for equal advance/retard...it's either a bunch one way and little the other or vice-versa.

its a  software program,  it asks very specific  questions regarding displacement,  cam specs,  compression ratio,  stuff like that
