Hey guys, great thread and thanks for the contributions.  I'm getting ready to pull a 22rte out of my 86 turbo 4runner and swap in a3rz.  One thing I can't find any info on is whether or not I should ditch the digital dash for analog gauges.  Anyone have experience swapping motors with this dash setup?

Yes it would, I will post it up if I find a way to work it in with the swap.

So that one is coil on plug?  What year engine is that?  My '98 stuff has the two coil packs...

So im just plopping a new motor into my taco and im swapping my old t100 oil pan over to the new motor. and the new motor has the dipstick in the front compared to the to the t100 style that has it on the side of the block. Can I run the the rear sump style t100 pan without relocating the front dipstick to the side ?

If the sump is rear, how could you use the front dipstick location? Don't think it will show your oil level accurately. Knock out the side boss and install the tube and dipstick for T100.

I agree, I see in the photos that alot of guys have the rear sump pan but with the front dipstick and I don't see how the heck it could work. Maybe they are just guessing on their oil level. I installed the side style dip stick and put the plug in the front hole.

I got a new stick and tube, however you can put the recomended amount of oil in and mark a new level mark on your original stick. Keep and eye on it and your fine. A good motor doesn't burn oil anyways so there's no worries.

Thats what I did. I ordered a pan kit from LC. Nice new parts.

I don't see how keeping dipstick in the front and marking it with proper amount of oil, can be right.  The dipstick would either hit the pan and fold back, or not even go in at all... You would be better suited to just tap out the side plug and use the old dipstick and mark IT with the proper quantity in the pan...   But the dipstick and tube are cheap, just save up for a week and get the correct parts... That's my opinion...  An engine swap isn't the place to be cheap.

I never said I did it, I also said I purchased the correct parts. But it can be done. If its to long, cut the thing. You'd be surprised how many people do this swap and half ass the heck out of it. Just heard of a local who did the swap, isn't running 02 sensors, no evap and is missing tons of stuff. He then complained that his motor ran like crap. G I wonder why lol

3toys

Oh,I wasn't saying you RC.  I implied it towards folks that opt to cheap out...  I did the swap and I did it right. Bought parts from those that have done it(Chilkat & LCE Performance). And it went together flawlessly.  Only code is for EGR insufficient flow.  But otherwise it's perfect.  4500 miles in the three weeks it's been complete.

What parts do LC offer for a swap, all I can come up with is an oil pan from them.

Thinking about my dash again and it seems like the only thing I will need to deal with is oil pressure and tach.  All other functions should be independent of ECU and engine wiring (turbo digital dash).

3toys

Oil pressure, tach, coolant temp gauge, ignition(key) feeds to various sensors and ECU, start signal to ECU, and I am sure I am forgetting something....

Regardless, it's not difficult.  I eliminated pretty much everything in the IK1 connector and just free wired the necessary components.  And I only used what I had to from the "A" connector for the ECU.  That was the only wiring I had to do.  "B, C, &D" come directly from the engine harness, so they're self contained.

How much pressure does the high pressure fuel line produce? Will I be ok adding a soft line off the tank across my rear crossmember to the modified tacoma lines as long as I use hose clamps?

3toys

Regulator holds fuel pressure to around 35-42 psi from what I have researched and found.  Fuel injection soft line is fine in short distances, 4-5 ft or less.

I'm dropping my 3rz in an 80. Getting down to the smaller things and trying to source a longer throttle cable. What did you guys use?

3toys

I used a '93-ish 4runner V6 cable.  Bolted right up...

rcbro

Thanks guys, I'm going junkyard hunting again saturday. I'll see how many I can pull lol

Benji

Found this today and it looks to have some helpful information in it on pinouts, etc for the ecu for multiple years, manual and at

IMO not worth it i run mine with no cat and a rear O2 and it does fine.

I just don't see the nees. If your motor is properly running you shouldn't have an issue or codes anyways.
